Purpose of the Job: To ensure Clariant's products comply with relevant chemical regulations, material requirements, and trade regulations across assigned regions. Verify proper HS (Harmonized System or Tariff classification) code for import/export compliance. Responsibility: • Drive strategic initiatives within chemical regulatory framework. • Investigate and analyze chemical structures to ensure regulatory compliance • Determine appropriate HS codes for chemical products based on structural analysis• Follow Regulation: CWC (Chemical Weapons Convention), INCB (International Narcotics Control Board), Central Insecticide Board or SCOMET(Special Chemicals, Organisms, Materials, Equipment and Technologies). • Collaborate across teams to assess regulatory compliance. • Collect and evaluate data per legal, regulatory, and business requirements. • Ensure material and product compliance through document and data analysis. • Maintain compliance with global and local import/export laws. • Document compliance data in systems like SAP Environment, Health, and Safety. • Communicate compliance restrictions and requirements to stakeholders. • Support implementation of regulatory changes. Requirement: • Master in Science or equivalent studies • 5+ years of experience in Chemical, Pharma or other highly regulated industries • Experience in chemical regulations, material compliance and trade regulations.• Experience with CWC (Chemical Weapons Convention), INCB (International Narcotics Control Board), Central Insecticide Board or SCOMET(Special Chemicals, Organisms, Materials, Equipment and Technologies). • Experience with SAP modules. • Accurate chemical identification. • Good to have experience in HS (Harmonized System) classification. • Analytical bent of mind, problem-solving ability, deep diving approach. • Self-motivation to learn regulations and strive for regulatory excellence. • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. As a talented Strategic Sourcing Specialist, you will be working in a fast-paced multi-site manufacturing environment. Your key role within the sourcing group will involve executing cost takeout projects within Operations and New Product Development. Additionally, you will be supporting the global procurement team by collecting material compliance reports from the current supplier base and feeding the collected data to the centralized material compliance platform. CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOB 1.Develop strong understanding and execution capability in product regulatory compliance, focusing on U.S. Tariff/HTS classification, CBAM and Environmental Regulations (RoHS, REACH, Conflict Minerals). 2.Take ownership of key tasks supporting U.S. tariff automation, including coordination with logistics and IT teams, organizing Mill Test Reports (MTRs), and supporting SPEC-STAR system implementation. 3. Learn to interpret engineering BOMs and supplier documents to ensure accurate reporting and classification. Work under guidance from senior staff, with performance measured by timely execution, data accuracy, and collaboration with cross-functional global teams. Job Accountabilities 1. Support U.S. Tariff classification and HTS code mapping in collaboration with the logistics and IT teams under the SPEC-STAR automation project. Ensure correct duty application and accurate classification for customs compliance. 2. Review and organize Mill Test Reports (MTRs) hosted on SharePoint, extract material data needed for HTS classification, and support clean data upload to the SPEC-STAR system. 3. Collect and analyze supplier compliance declarations (RoHS, REACH, Prop 65, Conflict Minerals, etc.) to evaluate material compliance and fulfill global product regulatory requirements. 4. Coordinate CBAM-related data collection and reporting, including GHG emissions data from suppliers, and assist in generating quarterly reports for EU-bound products. 5. Communicate with global teams and suppliers to ensure timely collection of required documents and resolve data discrepancies. Material Compliance Engineer Qualification: B.E. Mechanical Experience Range: 3 to 5 Years Roles & Responsibilities: At least 3 years of significant experience focused on the field of material management for the automotive industry. Proficiency in IMDS software is essential, along with advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). The candidate would need to interact and align with the global group companies and external partners for development areas. Thorough knowledge of GADSL substance list. REACH, IMDS, ELV & BPR are all acronyms commonly used in the industry. Review IMDS reports in accordance with customer requirements, national and international standards, laws, regulations concerning materials. Able to read product technical drawing & product related queries. Knowledge on Plastics, Metals, Electronics and Textiles etc. Evaluate IMDS records based on client specifications, domestic and global standards, and legal requirements related to substances. Collaborate with internal engineering, supply chain, and quality teams to verify the material content of products. Prepare and review Engineering Bill of Materials (BOM) to ensure the accuracy of material composition across assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components. Effective spoken and written communication skills. Knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems is advantageous. Certifications in sustainability and environmental compliance are beneficial. Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail. Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
