Job Description

Role & responsibilities

a leadership role focused on developing and executing merchandising strategies to maximize sales and profitability in the fashion industry

Key Responsibilities:

  • Merchandising Strategy & Planning:

    Develop and implement comprehensive merchandising strategies aligned with brand objectives and target market needs.
  • Trend Analysis & Forecasting:

    Analyze market trends, consumer behavior, and competitor activity to identify growth opportunities and inform product selection and pricing.
  • Assortment Planning & Buying:

    Curate diverse product selections for different channels, ensuring alignment with brand strategy and consumer preferences.
  • Inventory Management:

    Optimize inventory levels, manage stock flow, and minimize markdowns through effective sales analysis and forecasting.
  • Vendor Management:

    Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, negotiate favorable terms, and ensure timely delivery of quality products.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    Collaborate with design, sourcing, production, marketing, and sales teams to ensure seamless execution of merchandising strategies.
  • Team Leadership & Development:

    Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of merchandisers, providing guidance and support to foster their professional growth.
  • Performance Analysis & Reporting:

    Track key performance indicators (KPIs), analyze sales data, and generate reports to identify areas for improvement and inform future strategies.
  • Budget Management:

    Manage budgets related to inventory, markdowns, and other merchandising expenses.
  • Market Research:

    Stay informed about current market trends, competitor activities, and emerging technologies in the fashion industry.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership and management skills:

    Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills:

    Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills:

    Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including team members, vendors, and other departments.
  • Strong understanding of fashion and retail industries:

    Knowledge of current trends, consumer behavior, and product development processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools:

    Ability to utilize data to inform decision-making.
  • Financial acumen:

    Understanding of budgeting, inventory management, and profitability analysis.
  • Degree in fashion merchandising, marketing, or a related field:

    (Master's degree preferred).
  • Experience in fashion buying, merchandising, and/or planning:

    8-12 years of experience is often required.
