Lead Engineer - VP

As a Lead Engineer - VP at Barclays, you will be embarking on a transformative journey to spearhead the evolution of the Global Platforms Services function within the Global Technology and Infrastructure Services department. You will be a key member of the Platform Services Software Engineering team, dedicated to engineering user-friendly solutions that enable seamless consumption of Cloud and Middleware platform offerings. Your responsibilities will include ensuring self-service capabilities, high levels of automation, and easy integration into application build and release pipelines, encompassing virtualization, container platforms, and middleware software for a highly usable ecosystem. You will work with a team of engineers to architect, design, build, document, and test software components, collaborating closely with colleagues in the cloud and middleware organization to deliver a modern developer-focused experience. Effective stakeholder management, leadership, and decision-making skills will be essential to support business strategy and risk management. To be successful in this role, you should have experience with providing technical leadership for complex technical problems, a strong understanding of enterprise design principles for building secure, fault-tolerant, and scalable systems, as well as Agile application development methodology. Proficiency in Cloud concepts, DevOps, CI/CD, hands-on development experience in Java or Python, API development using REST/SOAP, implementing API security and authentication, working with PaaS and container orchestration/management tools, and delivering automation solutions are also required. A strong work ethic, teamwork skills, creativity, passion, and discipline are valued attributes. Highly valued skills include coding experience in GoLang, Rust, UI technologies like HTML, JSP, JavaScript, Angular JS, knowledge of testing methodologies like TDD, BDD, release and change management processes, configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, Terraform, event bus products like Kafka, source code control systems like Git, build pipelines with GitLab, build automation tools like Maven, Gradle, and cloud security and network concepts. In this role based in Chennai, IN, your purpose will be to design, develop, and enhance software using various engineering methodologies to provide business, platform, and technology capabilities for customers and colleagues. Your accountabilities will include developing and delivering high-quality software solutions, collaborating cross-functionally to define software requirements, promoting a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing, staying informed of industry technology trends, ensuring secure coding practices, and implementing effective unit testing practices.
