Toast is looking for a Senior Software Engineering Manager to take responsibility for building new, innovative FinTech capabilities As well as providing a cutting edge point of sale system for restaurants, Toast also processes billions of dollars of payments, and offers best-in-class financial service solutions to our customers As we build new solutions to meet the needs of our customers, we are also focused on optimising for extensibility, resilience and scalability, using continuous delivery tools & methodology This is an exciting opportunity to build and lead a new team in delivering impactful strategic Fintech solutions, As a Senior Engineering Manager on our team, you will: Drive overall technical architecture, design, build and launch features/improvements on our platform, Deliver high-impact complex projects that may span multiple teams and amplify impact by aligning organizations toward coherent architectural strategies Drive delivery of business outcomes across multiple teams, including planning and execution Collaborate closely with Product Management and UX to get actionable, valuable work defined for the team Ensure end-to-end delivery of software, including team ownership of monitoring and production issue remediation Coach individuals in professional and technical development to set up for their success Hire and mentor Team Leads and Senior Technical Staff members to ensure their success at Toast The Toast platform processes tens of millions of requests per day, and this number grows constantly as we add new restaurants and integration partners to our system The services we develop on this team are essential for Toasts operation and their resilience and reliability are crucial from a business and user perspective, If you want to help create something tangible that is used every day, help small businesses achieve their vision, and take on the challenge of scaling a SaaS product from millions of users to hundreds of millions of users, Toast is the place for you, Work Mode: This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring a minimum of 2 days per week in the office, Do you have the right ingredients(Experience) Fintech products solution design, implementation at launch at scale 10+ years mentoring and growing successful teams Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other equivalent quantitative disciplines 5+ years of managing, coaching and growing successful teams Highly proficient knowledge in a high-level programming language such as Java, Kotlin, Go, etc No problems if you have experience with other languages Good engineers can adapt, Excellent knowledge in other parts of the stack, Postgres, JavaScript (React), Flutter Enjoys building well-engineered, usable, and accessible systems Experience working in a team with Agile/Scrum methodology Have knowledge of and experience in building backend services/APIs Have a strong understanding of software engineering, distributed systems, and Event Platforms gained from hands-on experience building fault-tolerant and secure applications, You have experience working with product teams to invent solutions that deliver good outcomes to our customers and the company A bias towards action, with the ability to balance between getting things done and making things perfect A strong sense of empathy for customers and teammates A desire to build a diverse team that wins together and prioritizes customer success Our Tech Stack Our products run on a stack that ranges from guest and restaurant-facing Android tablets to backend services in Java to internal, guest-facing and restaurant-facing web apps Our backend services follow a microservice architecture written using Java and Kotlin on DropWizard; we use AWS extensively, ranging from S3 to RDS to DynamoDB to Lambda We have our own platform for dealing with service elevations and robust load balancing We store data in PostgreSQL databases or DynamoDB tables depending on use case, and utilize Apache Spark for large scale data workloads including query and batch processing The web frontend is built using React and ES6 Our restaurant point of sale application is an Android application written in Java and Kotlin Apache Pulsar and Camel are used extensively in our integration transaction workflow processing,
