Job Description

Role & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical & Patient Care Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and monitor patient care activities in the ICU to ensure adherence to established protocols and NABH guidelines.
  • Coordinate with intensivists, consultants, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Conduct clinical rounds and review critically ill patients treatment plans and progress.
  • Monitor infection control practices and ensure zero tolerance for hospital-acquired infections.
  • Ensure the implementation of emergency protocols (CPR, Code Blue) and critical care policies.

Operational & Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the ICU, including bed allocation, patient admissions, and transfers.
  • Ensure proper documentation, including patient records, nursing notes, and incident reports, as per NABH requirements.
  • Monitor and maintain ICU equipment, biomedical devices, and supplies to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Prepare daily/weekly/monthly reports related to ICU census, performance indicators, and quality metrics.
  • Plan duty rosters for ICU staff and ensure adequate manpower coverage at all times.

Staff Management & Training:

  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate ICU nursing staff, technicians, and other support personnel.
  • Conduct regular training sessions and mock drills (e.g., CPR, Code Blue, disaster preparedness) to maintain staff competency.
  • Assess the performance of staff and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate induction programs for new staff and ensure adherence to ICU protocols and safety standards.

Quality Assurance & NABH Compliance:

  • Ensure strict adherence to NABH standards, protocols, and audits.
  • Conduct regular audits of nursing care, patient records, and ICU procedures.
  • Implement corrective and preventive action plans (CAPA) for non-conformities identified during audits.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPI) such as mortality rates, infection rates, and length of stay.

Coordination & Communication:

  • Act as a liaison between ICU, other hospital departments, and patient families.
  • Facilitate timely communication of patient status and treatment plans to families with sensitivity and clarity.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy and biomedical teams to ensure uninterrupted supply of critical medicines and equipment.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education:

    BAMS/ BDS/MHA
  • Experience:

    Minimum 25 years of ICU Coordinator settings, including a supervisory role.
  • Skills:

    • Strong clinical knowledge of ICU protocols, emergency care, and critical care management.
    • Leadership and team management abilities.
    • Excellent communication, coordination, and decision-making skills.
    • Familiarity with NABH standards, quality control, and documentation.
