Job Title: Data Steward
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Data Steward will be responsible for ensuring the quality, accessibility, and compliance
of the data elements while maintaining alignment with business goals and data governance
standards.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, subject matter experts
(SMEs), Data Asset Owners, and Digital Product Owners to manage the full data asset
lifecycle. You will ensure that data elements are accurate, complete, and utilized effectively
across the organization, driving transparency and value. You will also work with the
Business Application Owner and Business Process Owners to make sure that the
master data is up to date at a source level and all reporting needs are covered. As a Data
Steward, you will also support the data governance framework by facilitating data quality,
managing the decommissioning of obsolete data elements, and ensuring data is properly
classified and accessible to authorized users.
• Operational Data Management: Manage data quality on a daily and ad-hoc basis,
ensuring data elements meet organizational standards. Address operational data
needs and ensure timely data updates and maintenance.
• Collaboration with Business Stakeholders: Work with end-users and business
SMEs to understand their data needs, providing support and guidance on how to use
the data effectively to meet operational and strategic goals.
• Master Data Management: Collaborate with source and process owners to ensure
the integrity of master data at a source level and in CDL, executing processes for
validation (UAT), and synchronization of master data.
• Data Governance Execution: Assist DAO to define the business metadata and rules
of the data elements you are responsible for. Support the DAO to maintain the data
lineage tools from a source system perspective.
• Reporting and Analytics: Leverage native reporting capabilities to develop reports
within internal systems and external software tools (Power BI, ThoughtSpot) to
provide additional insights.
• Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the data
elements under your stewardship, attending council meeting and demonstrating a
deep understanding of their role and significance in supporting business processes
and decision-making.
• Data Access and Compliance: In case of restricted data, ensure that applicable
data elements are only accessible to authorized users and that all data sharing
practices align with organizational data governance policies and applicable privacy
regulations.
• Change management of data elements: Collaborate with Data Asset Owners to
identify, update and repoint data elements due to source system changes or
decommission obsolete data elements, ensuring that data assets remain relevant and
optimized.
Key Skills:
• Database Expertise: Advanced knowledge of database management systems
(DBMS), and SQL.
• Analytical and Strategic Thinking: Demonstrate robust analytical skills and
strategic thinking to make impactful decisions in the creation of data assets.
• Digital Solutions Knowledge: Strong grasp of digital solutions implementation to
ensure successful management and integration of data assets across systems and
platforms.
• Operational Business Knowledge: Deep understanding of the operational business
area, including business processes, data requirements, and the rules that govern how
data is used at a source level.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Education: University bachelors degree in a scientific field with two years of related
experience in System application management (preferably in a healthcare related
industry)
• Technical Skills: Expertise in SQL, Data cataloging and management platforms
(Collibra, Oval Edge, etc), Project Management Tools (Jira, Confluence etc). Strong
knowledge in Excel and Salesforce. Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and visualization
tools (Tableau, Power BI etc)
• Collaboration: Proven ability to collaborate with business teams and IT stakeholders
to gather requirements, manage data, and deliver value-driven solutions.
• Problem-Solving: Strong ability to analyze complex data challenges, apply critical
thinking, and provide actionable solutions.
• Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex
data concepts in a clear, understandable way to both technical and non-technical
stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of Data Governance frameworks, standards and best practices (e.g.
DAMA-DMBOK, ISO 8000)
• Familiarity of Good Practices (GxP) and Data Privacy standards
• Familiarity with Data Governance tools like Collibra, Oval Edge a plus
• Familiarity with Computer System Validation requirements
