J ob Description Position Title: Shift Incharge Rolling Mill Operations Department: Production Rolling Mill (Wire Rod Mill / Hot Rolling Mill) Location: Raipur, Chhattisgarh Reporting To: Rolling Mill Manager Industry: Steel / Metals Manufacturing Experience Required: 5 to 10 years Qualification: Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Metallurgy, or Production Engineering Role Objective To ensure smooth and efficient operations of the rolling mill during the assigned shift by supervising manpower, monitoring equipment performance, achieving production targets, and maintaining product quality and safety standards. Key Responsibilities1. Production Management Execute daily production schedules and shift-wise targets. Monitor key operational parameters: rolling temperature, mill speed, tension control, pass schedule, etc. Ensure minimal delays and maintain shift efficiency KPIs. 2. Shift Supervision Manage a team of operators, fitters, and helpers across the mill line. Ensure optimal manpower deployment and shift discipline. Conduct shift handover/takeover effectively with proper documentation. 3. Quality Control Monitor process control parameters to ensure product quality (size tolerance, surface finish, mechanical properties). Coordinate with quality team to address defects and implement corrective actions. 4. Equipment Monitoring & Maintenance Support Identify issues with mill stands, shears, loopers, pinch rolls, cooling beds, etc. Coordinate with mechanical/electrical maintenance for preventive and breakdown activities. Report downtime and ensure timely equipment restoration. 5. Safety & Compliance Enforce safety practices across all rolling zones. Conduct safety toolbox talks and follow statutory safety standards. Ensure compliance with ISO / IS / BIS / customer specifications and audit requirements. 6. Documentation & Reporting Maintain daily shift production reports, logbooks, and downtime records. Report shift performance and issues to the Mill Manager or HOD . K ey Skills and Competencies Deep understanding of hot rolling operations (wire rods / TMT / rounds). Knowledge of mill configurations (2-Hi, 3-Hi, No-Twist, Morgan Block Mill). Familiarity with SCADA, PLC, and automation systems. Analytical, leadership, and team-handling capabilities. Ability to work under pressure and in rotational shifts. Preferred Industry Background Integrated Steel Plants / Secondary Steel Producers Experience in high-speed rolling mills or TMT/Wire Rod lines .
