Solar Electric Design Engineer We are seeking a Solar Electric Design Engineer to join our team. You will be designing a wide variety of solar PV systems for digital tools and offline documentation. Your Responsibilities Plan concepts by studying site information, client requirements, and solar data (irradiance, shading, orientation).Illustrate system concepts by drafting layouts, single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and aesthetic array designs using CAD and PV design tools.Liaise with stakeholders, managing requirements, budgets, design styles, documentation formats, permit production, and project timelines.Prepare rough drafts of design materialsmodule layouts, inverters, racking, and electrical schematicsbased on agreed briefs.Develop designs (layouts, proposal visuals, PV system diagrams) using tools like AutoCAD, PVsyst, HelioScope, and Aurora Solar.Apply appropriate colors and layouts to diagrams for clarity in proposals, presentations, and permit sets.Collaborate with project managers and permitting teams to produce final design packages.Validate designs through simulations and ensure readiness for digital and print execution.Ensure final layouts are visually appealing and technically accurate, meeting safety and code requirements.Communicate with clients, engineers, and site teams about layout decisions and design revisions.Create illustrations and layouts for PV system plans, technical proposals, permit documents, and websites using Photoshop, CAD, and PV tools.Review final layouts (drawings, BOMs, simulations) and recommend improvements to ensure accuracy and compliance.Coordinate with drafting verifiers, permit preparation teams, field technicians, and EPC partners to complete projects.Maintain technical knowledge by attending renewable energy design workshops, reviewing publications, and engaging with engineering societies.Contribute to team efforts by delivering high-quality work on time and actively supporting throughout the project lifecycle. Skills & Experience Required Proven experience in solar design engineering or a related field (15+ years).Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp) and PV design/simulation software (e.g., PVsyst, HelioScope, Aurora, PVCase).Competence with Photoshop and InDesign for presentation and proposal graphics.Strong understanding of electrical design principles, NEC/IEC/local codes, and PV system components.Excellent visual design sense, attention to detail, and organizational skills.Effective communication ability for stakeholder interactions and cross-team collaboration.Methodical and deadline-driven with strong project/time management.Professional approach to timelines, budgets, and deliverables. Education & Certifications Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field; a Graphic Design degree with strong PV design experience is also welcome.Professional certifications a plus: NABCEP Associate/Designer, EIT, PE license, or SEI training.Prior field or installation experience (e.g., internships as a solar installer) is highly valued.
