Position: General Manager Textile Mill Location: Pudupakam, Chennai Reporting To: CEO Industry: Textile Manufacturing (Yarn-Dyed Checks & Flannel Fabrics) Key Responsibilities Operational Management: Oversee daily production and processing across all departments (yarn dyeing, warping, sizing, weaving—airjet and rapier looms—and finishing). Ensure efficient scheduling, workflow, and optimal machine utilization. Monitor KPIs: production output, efficiency, machine uptime, quality rejection rates, and delivery timelines. P&L and Business Performance: Full ownership of the unit’s Profit & Loss. Monitor and optimize operational costs, profitability, and financial performance. Present monthly performance and financial reports to senior management. Sustainability & Certifications: Lead sustainability initiatives in energy, water, and chemical usage; manage waste and emissions. Ensure compliance with environmental and social standards (ZDHC, Higg Index, GOTS, OEKO-TEX, ISO 14001, BSCI). Coordinate certification audits and maintain accurate documentation. Quality & Compliance: Enforce stringent quality control systems. Ensure fabrics meet customer specifications and international standards. Uphold statutory, legal, and regulatory compliance. Team Leadership & HR: Build and manage the operational team, including department heads and supervisors. Lead, mentor, and motivate staff to achieve high performance. Oversee manpower deployment, shift scheduling, and productivity targets. Maintenance & Asset Management: Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of all machinery and infrastructure. Ensure high uptime and reliability for looms, dyeing, and finishing equipment. Supply Chain & Inventory: Coordinate with procurement for timely sourcing of raw materials. Monitor inventory, control material wastage, and optimize storage and consumption. Cost Control & Efficiency: Drive process improvements and implement lean manufacturing practices. Reduce energy and utility costs through innovation and monitoring. Benchmark productivity and adopt best practices. Strategic Planning & Reporting: Participate in long-term strategy, capacity expansion, automation, and market alignment initiatives. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Textile Technology, Mechanical, Industrial, or Production Engineering (MBA preferred). Lab & RFT Excellence: Supervise the lab team for accurate shade development and faster lab dip approvals. Implement robust recipe management systems and shade libraries. Improve Right First Time (RFT) percentages by strengthening lab-to-bulk correlation. Introduce global best practices in lab operations, testing, and standardization. 3. Quality & Compliance: Ensure adherence to customer specifications and industry standards. Minimize reworks, shade mismatches, and fabric rejects. Implement and monitor SOPs, safety guidelines, and environmental compliance. Collaborate with the QA/QC team for root cause analysis and corrective actions. 4. Process Improvement & Cost Optimization: Lead initiatives in process innovation, chemical cost reduction, and water/energy savings.
