Tool Room Manager

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: Tooling Management: Plan, organize, and supervise all tool room activities, including tool design, development, maintenance, and repair of dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance: Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all tooling to reduce downtime and extend tool life. Quality Assurance: Ensure that all tools and equipment meet quality standards and are calibrated and certified where applicable. Troubleshoot tool-related issues on the production floor. Tool Breakage Analysis: Perform detailed tool breakage analysis to identify root causes, trends, and corrective/preventive actions to reduce tool failure and downtime. Inventory Management: Manage and control the inventory of tool spares and consumables. Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely availability. Cost Control & Optimization: Monitor tool room expenses and explore cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or efficiency. Documentation & Compliance: Maintain proper documentation of tool usage, maintenance records, breakdown reports, and audits. Ensure compliance with ISO/TS standards and company SOPs. Team Leadership: Lead a team of toolmakers, machinists, and technicians. Allocate workloads, train team members, and ensure adherence to best practices in safety and operations. Required Qualifications and Skills: Diploma / B.E. / B. Tech in Mechanical / Tool Engineering or related field 8+ years of relevant experience in a tool room within the automotive/auto components manufacturing sector Strong knowledge of press tools, injection molds, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and precision machining Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Kaizen practices Excellent leadership, planning, and communication skills Strong analytical and problem-solving ability Preferred Exposure to IATF 16949 quality standards Experience in APQP, PPAP, and tool validation processes Knowledge of SAP or ERP systems for tool tracking and maintenance
