Technical Security Architect - Confluent Cloud / AWS Data Platform Job Overview A Technical Security Architect to support the security design, governance, and assurance activities for a Confluent Cloud and AWS-hosted data platform project. This role requires a strong foundation in cloud security architecture, experience with Kafka/Confluent platforms, and the ability to influence design decisions across infrastructure, data, and application layers. The ideal candidate will also bring strong project coordination skills and familiarity with Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) frameworks. Key Responsibilities Security Architecture & Design Define and document secure architecture patterns and guardrails for Confluent Cloud, Kafka pipelines, and associated AWS infrastructure. Collaborate with platform engineers, data architects, and application teams to ensure security is embedded in solution design and deployment. Lead threat modelling and risk assessments for key components and integrations. Documentation & Technical Reviews Review and write high-quality technical design and security documentation, including HLDs, LLDs, and data flow diagrams. Ensure designs adhere to internal security policies, industry best practices, and compliance requirements. GRC & Compliance Map security control requirements to organizational policies and regulatory frameworks.. Contribute to the development of platform-specific security controls and operational playbooks. Project Management Support Act as a key security stakeholder supporting the delivery of the Data platform project. Track security deliverables, identify risks and blockers, and communicate effectively with project managers and stakeholders. Provide oversight of security backlog and remediation activities. Skills & Experience Mandatory: Overall 10+ years of experience in cloud technologies of which 5+ years into security architect role. Proven experience as a Security Architect on cloud-native platforms (preferably AWS). Experience with AWS security services (e.g. IAM, KMS, VPC, GuardDuty, Security Hub). Strong understanding of security principles across identity, network, data, and application layers. Knowledge of Confluent Cloud, Apache Kafka, and secure data streaming practices. Ability to write and review technical documentation clearly and concisely. Experience working with cross-functional DevOps, data and infrastructure teams. Desirable: Experience in Agile project environments and tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence). Previous involvement in enterprise data platform or streaming data projects.
