Job Description

The Quantitative Research Group at Morningstar focuses on creating independent investment research and data-driven analytics to support investors and Morningstar in making better decisions. Using statistical rigor and extensive data sets, the team develops methodologies that cover a wide range of securities across various asset classes such as equities, fixed income, structured credit, and funds. Morningstar stands as a leading independent provider of fund, equity, and credit data and research globally, with a core commitment to advocating for investor interests. This role offers a dynamic opportunity to engage externally by presenting Morningstar's research, data, and products to external journalists and reporters, especially those from top financial media outlets. Collaborating closely with the European Corporate Communications team, you will provide timely and data-driven insights to media inquiries and produce original investment research to empower investors. Your contributions will play a crucial role in enhancing Morningstar's public profile and establishing strong relationships with key financial media entities. Based in Mumbai at the Platinum Techno Park, this position operates during UK Shift working hours. Responsibilities: - Work closely with Morningstar's Corporate Communications, Fund Research, and Equity Research teams to deliver data-driven analysis in response to media requests. - Effectively communicate the work of the quantitative research team to internal stakeholders and external clients. - Develop a deep understanding of key investment areas, including equities, fixed income, mutual funds, ETFs, as well as Morningstar's proprietary methodologies and data sets. - Create and manage Jupyter notebooks and Excel-based calculation templates to automate repetitive analytical tasks efficiently. - Maintain detailed documentation of procedures used to address media inquiries. Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in a financial discipline - Progress towards CFA Level I is preferred - 3-5 years of experience in data journalism, investment research, or quantitative roles, particularly with a focus on media or client-facing communication - Strong written and verbal communication skills - Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including macros and VBA - Proficiency in coding with SQL and Python - Exceptional organizational skills to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines - High attention to detail and accuracy in data analysis and reporting using Excel - Ability to work independently or collaboratively with minimal supervision - Nice to have: Familiarity with Morningstar products, experience in European or Asian markets, and an understanding of ESG investing Morningstar is dedicated to being an equal opportunity employer, providing a hybrid work environment that allows for remote work and periodic in-person collaboration.
