Python Backend Developer

The Modern Data Company is seeking a seasoned Backend Developer with strong expertise in Python and/or Go to join their core engineering team. As a Backend Developer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and scaling backend services to power high-impact data platforms and developer tools. This role requires a deep understanding of backend architectures, open-source technologies, and a focus on building scalable systems. You will collaborate with a fast-moving, high-ownership team to solve foundational engineering problems that contribute to the long-term success of the platform. Your responsibilities will include contributing to high-performance APIs, data processing pipelines, and writing clean, modular, testable code. Additionally, you will work closely with platform, DevOps, and product teams to deliver robust integrations and contribute to architectural decisions and technical designs. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 4 years of experience in backend development and a strong proficiency in Python (Go is a strong plus). A solid understanding of system design, REST APIs, and backend infrastructure is essential, along with hands-on experience with open-source tools and optimizing SQL queries. Familiarity with containerized environments such as Docker and Kubernetes is also desired. It would be beneficial to have experience with event-driven architectures, asynchronous programming, gRPC, GraphQL, or other modern API standards. Exposure to cloud-native ecosystems like AWS, GCP, or Azure, as well as contributions to open-source projects or a strong GitHub profile, are considered advantageous.
