Production Engineer

Role & responsibilities

Key Roles and Responsibilities

1. Daily Production Planning & Execution

• Plan and execute daily production schedules for machining, assembly, and testing.
  
• Allocate manpower, machines, and materials to meet production targets.
  
• Ensure proper job card distribution and machine loading.
  
• Coordinate with planning & stores for material availability.
  

2. Shopfloor Supervision

• Monitor machine operations (VMC, CNC, Lathe, Drilling, etc.) and assembly/testing activities.
  
• Ensure operators follow process sheets, drawings, and work instructions.
  
• Solve on-floor issues in real-time (tool breakage, dimensional issues, etc.).
  

3. Productivity & Efficiency Improvement

• Track operator and machine-wise output; suggest and implement cycle time improvements.
  
• Reduce idle time and improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
  
• Identify and minimize bottlenecks in process flow.
  

5. Process Compliance

• Ensure proper implementation of SOPs, WI (Work Instructions), and PFD (Process Flow Diagrams).
  
• Ensure adherence to welding, painting, honing, testing processes, and torque/torque marking practices.
  
• Handle process traceability from raw material to dispatch (heat number, batch, job cards).
  

6. Tooling & Fixture Management

• Ensure availability and readiness of tools, jigs, and fixtures.
  
• Maintain tool life records and coordinate for timely regrinding or replacement.
  
• Verify tool settings and offsets.
  

7. Team & Manpower Handling

• Supervise operators, helpers, and trainees; assign tasks and shift duties.
  
• Motivate team for discipline, performance, and attendance.
  
• Conduct basic training for new operators or multi-skilling.
  

8. Documentation & Reporting

• Fill and verify daily production reports, rejection reports, downtime logs.
  
• Report shift handovers, shortages, tool breakdowns, etc.
  
• Maintain records for internal audits and ISO compliance.
  

9. Testing & Validation

• Oversee pressure testing (hydraulic) as per standards.
  
• Ensure test gauges, fixtures, and instruments are calibrated.
  
• Validate cylinder performance for leakage, stroke, and load.
  

10. Interdepartmental Coordination

• Coordinate with Design, SCM, QA/QC, and Dispatch for smooth flow.
  
• Escalate delays, shortages, or quality issues in a timely manner.
  
• Support in new product trials and first article approval.
