The Senior Nursing Executive plays a crucial leadership role in overseeing nursing staff and ensuring the highest standards of patient care. This position involves managing nursing teams, coordinating care across departments, mentoring junior nurses, and ensuring that nursing protocols are adhered to. Roles & Responsibilities: Assessing and Monitoring Patients Health Conditions: Continuously monitor and evaluate patient’s vital signs, symptoms, medical histories, and health status to identify changes or concerns. Administering Medications and Treatments: Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, ensuring accuracy in dosage, administration routes, and documentation. Maintain a high level of proficiency in administering medications via various routes, including oral, intravenous (IV), intramuscular, and subcutaneous. Monitor patients closely for any adverse reactions to medications, intervening swiftly when necessary, and reporting all reactions. Recording and Documenting Patient Data: Accurately document all patient data, including vital signs, symptoms, treatments, and responses, in the ERP system of the hospital. Maintaining confidentiality and security of patient records. Collaborating with Healthcare Professionals: Actively collaborate with physicians, therapists, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop and implement patient care plans. Performing Nursing Procedures: Perform specialized nursing procedures such as wound care, injections, IV therapy, IV cannulation, Foley’s catheterization, and Ryle’s tube insertion. Assist physicians in advanced procedures, including arterial line insertion, central venous pressure (CVP) line insertion, tracheostomy care, dressing changes, suturing and suture removal. Ensure adherence to sterile techniques and infection control protocols during all procedures. Assisting with Diagnostic Tests and Medical Procedures: Provide support during diagnostic tests and procedures such as ECG monitoring, intubation and imaging studies. Monitoring and Maintaining Medical Equipment: Oversee the operation and maintenance of medical equipment used in patient care including cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, ventilators and BiPAP machines. Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the relevant departments and ensure timely resolution. Compliance and Professional Development: Uphold hospital policies, protocols, and healthcare regulations to maintain high standards of patient safety and care. Stay updated on advancements in medical technology and nursing practices through continuous education and professional development. Leadership and Team Management: Provide mentorship, guidance and supervision to junior nursing staff, promoting skill development and adherence to best practices. Lead nursing executives & trainees in providing high-quality patient care, delegating tasks appropriately and ensuring all team members meet performance expectations. Quality Improvement and Patient Safety: Participate in quality improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities for enhancing patient care and safety. Monitor patient care outcomes, implement corrective actions as needed, and ensure compliance with infection control standards. Listening: Listen attentively to patients and their families to fully understand their needs, concerns, and expectations. Actively listen to junior nurses, understanding their challenges and providing guidance or support based on their perspectives. Create an open environment where staff feel heard and valued. Integrity: Uphold ethical standards in all clinical decisions and actions, ensuring patient safety and well-being. Address any discrepancies in care or patient rights and escalate issues as needed. Accountability: Take responsibility for the overall care and well-being of patients in their unit, ensuring that care plans are properly executed and that any complications are promptly addressed. Performance: Proactively address issues within the unit, whether related to staffing, patient care, or resource allocation, and implement solutions to prevent reoccurrence. Technical Competencies Advanced Clinical Knowledge: Use in-depth clinical expertise to guide complex patient cases via nursing care. Supervision and Training of Nursing Staff: Provide guidance, mentorship, and on-the-job training to junior nurses. Lead by example in demonstrating clinical procedures and ensure that all team members are up to date with hospital protocols and medical advancements. Crisis Management and Emergency Response: Lead the nursing team in emergency situations by providing clear direction and making swift, evidence-based decisions. Ensure that the unit is prepared to handle crises effectively, with protocols in place. Data and Record Management: Oversee accurate documentation of patient records, treatment plans, and care outcomes. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards for documentation and contribute to audits or quality improvement initiatives. Behavioral Competencies Empathy and Compassion: Display empathy towards patients and families by taking the time to understand their emotional and physical needs, encouraging the nursing team to do the same. Offer emotional support in critical situations. Stress Management: Handle high-pressure situations such as medical emergencies or staffing challenges calmly, ensuring that both patients and staff remain reassured and focused on their responsibilities. Conflict Resolution: Mediate conflicts between staff members or address complaints from patients or families.
