Lead Platform Engineer

Job Description

Role : As a Lead Platform Engineer, you'll embody a blend of strategic vision and hands-on engineering, contributing to and influencing the strategic direction of the Database Engineering Program. This role involves approximately 40% architecture and 60% engineering functions. You'll build strong partnerships with management, potentially overseeing operational or strategic initiatives and providing crucial team support. You'll also be a champion of the Mastercard Way, fostering a positive and collaborative culture. In this role, you will: Provide expert administration for production, pre-production, UAT, and development database systems, specifically with a strong working knowledge of Oracle and PostgreSQL. Design and optimize the database tier for our global systems, ensuring high performance, scalability, and security. Excel in performance tuning for both Oracle and PostgreSQL, with in-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL performance tuning and Oracle GoldenGate, including its optimization. Demonstrate proficiency with Oracle multi-tenant architecture. Perform advanced hands-on configuration, patching, upgrading, and optimization of database software and related products for PostgreSQL. Collaborate extensively with development teams, helping them achieve Reliability, Operability, Scalable, Performant, and Secure systems at the Database Tier. Apply advanced experience in security, backup/recovery, architecture, networking, and administration for assigned database disciplines. Leverage expertise in PostgreSQL Database Replication setup, configuration, and troubleshooting for both physical and logical replication. Work with technology teams on the development, maintenance, testing, implementation, and support of assigned database technologies and associated software products. Proactively monitor and apply advanced troubleshooting skills to resolve database issues escalated by business teams and internal monitoring, driving to root cause analysis and remediation in a timely manner. Develop strong partnerships with technology teams and customers to understand business needs and effectively communicate technical solutions in business terms. Utilize strong to advanced performance and tuning skills to identify, respond to, and resolve database performance issues, communicating resolutions clearly to technical teams and business partners. Consistently follow change management, problem management, and incident management processes and procedures. Apply experience with IAC Automation tools for building automation around database builds, patching, and maintenance. Handle large to enterprise-level projects and initiatives, leveraging specialized knowledge within your assigned discipline to architect robust solutions. Promote Database Engineering through advanced written and verbal communication skills. Proactively plan and coordinate larger technical and architectural efforts within the database team and with external technology teams. Influence Mastercard best practices in planning, coordinating, implementing, and maintaining database solutions. Train and mentor team members, contributing to supporting documentation. Communicate, collaborate, and work effectively within a global environment. Foster a positive culture within Database Engineering, adhering to the Mastercard Way. Essential Qualifications Sound and working knowledge of both Oracle and PostgreSQL. Excellent proficiency in performance tuning. In-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL performance tuning and Oracle GoldenGate, including its tuning. Well-versed with Oracle multi-tenant architecture. Desirable Knowledge/Experience Experience integrating vendor and open-source products into an overall system. Experience working on cloud-hosted services like AWS, Azure. Exposure to various database technologies including (but not limited to): Cassandra, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Redis, Oracle Exadata Administration. Experience in both RDBMS and NoSQL database technologies. Experience in development working with new trends.
