JOB DESCRIBTION: A Scrub Nurse , also known as a Perioperative Nurse or Theatre Nurse , is a vital member of the surgical team who works directly with the surgeon within the sterile field. Their primary role is to assist during surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, managing surgical instruments, and ensuring a sterile environment. Scrub nurses play a critical part in maintaining patient safety and supporting successful surgical outcomes. Role: Serve as a sterile team member during surgery. Act as the primary assistant to the surgeon. Maintain aseptic technique throughout the procedure. Collaborate with other surgical team members (surgeon, anesthetist, circulating nurse, etc.). Ensure that surgical instruments and supplies are ready and functional. Responsibilities: Preoperative Duties: Prepare and arrange surgical instruments and equipment. Check that all supplies are sterile and functional. Set up the operating room according to the specific procedure. Assist in patient preparation and draping. Intraoperative Duties: Hand instruments and materials to the surgeon during surgery. Maintain the sterile field and monitor for breaks in sterility.
