Job Title:


Job Summary:

The Transplant Coordinator plays a vital role in managing and coordinating all aspects of organ or tissue donation and transplantation. This includes assessing potential donors or recipients, facilitating communication among multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and ethical guidelines. The role demands both clinical expertise and compassionate communication to support patients and families throughout the transplant process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pre-Transplant Coordination:


    • Evaluate transplant candidates and schedule necessary testing.
    • Educate patients and families about the transplant process, including risks and benefits.
    • Collaborate with the transplant team to determine eligibility.
  • Donor Coordination (if applicable):


    • Coordinate with organ procurement organizations (OPOs).
    • Facilitate organ recovery logistics, including donor assessment and transportation.
    • Ensure proper documentation and consent procedures are followed.
  • Post-Transplant Care:


    • Monitor recipients for signs of rejection and complications.
    • Coordinate follow-up appointments and manage immunosuppressive therapy schedules.
    • Educate patients on post-transplant lifestyle and medication compliance.
  • Administrative Duties:


    • Maintain accurate medical records in compliance with legal and accreditation standards.
    • Participate in quality assurance programs, audits, and data reporting (e.g., UNOS, NOTTO).
    • Assist with the development of policies and procedures related to transplant activities.
  • Communication & Liaison:


    • Serve as a liaison between patients, families, medical staff, OPOs, and external agencies.
    • Provide emotional support and counseling as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    Bachelors Degree in Nursing or Allied Health (required); Masters preferred ( MSW )
  • Licensure:

    Registered Nurse (RN) or equivalent; valid license in practicing state.
  • Experience:


    • Minimum 5 to 10 years in transplant, critical care, or related clinical field.
    • Experience in organ procurement or transplant coordination is a plus.
  • Certifications:


    • Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC) preferred.
    • BLS/ACLS certification required.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems and transplant databases (e.g., UNOS, eTransplant).
  • Knowledge of transplant-related laws, ethics, and clinical guidelines.
