We're currently seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to join our IBM Cloud VPC Observability team. This team is dedicated to ensuring IBM Cloud remains at the forefront of reliable enterprise cloud technology. Your Role and Responsibilities As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will: Apply a logical, methodical, and analytical approach to effectively isolate and resolve complex technical problems. Communicate clearly and collaborate seamlessly with other technicians, departments, and customers in technical support scenarios. Demonstrate and apply comprehensive knowledge of IBM's products. Exercise sound discretion when deviating from standard practices to resolve issues within your area of expertise. Conduct thorough research into problems and recommend optimal solutions. Contribute to team growth by assisting in on-the-job training. Professionally process and resolve asset request cases, ensuring accurate accounting for site inventory. Maintain precise site inventory with zero discrepancy by adhering to established asset management procedures. Oversee inbound and outbound fulfillment activities to achieve business deliverables. Ensure that any asset defects, damages, discrepancies, or deviations are promptly escalated to management for timely support and resolution. Be available to work in shift rotations, which may include day, evening, overnight, and/or during weekends and holidays. Be prepared to work from various IBM Cloud locations in Chennai. Education Required Education: Bachelor's Degree Technical and Professional Expertise Required Technical and Professional Expertise: Minimum of 2 years of experience. Requires hands-on physical server hardware experience, including assembling components like motherboards, RAM, hard drives, RAID controllers, and network cards. OS experience is a plus, with a strong emphasis on physical server hardware exposure. Responsible for scheduling and performing hardware maintenances for IBM Cloud customers, encompassing upgrades, downgrades, and support requests. This specifically refers to physical hardware upgrades/downgrades of server components such as RAM, hard drives, processors, and network cards. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with basic physical network cable/device connections at the server/switch/stack level for network devices within the Data Center. Must have worked in a physical Data Center with 100% onsite experience (NO REMOTE SUPPORT). Requires 24/7 Operations with 100% onsite support (no remote or on-call support), following a rotating shift schedule. Responsible for responding to UIP related events around physical infrastructure. Coordinate with internal departments to resolve outage events related to faulty links, optics, or failed networking devices. Knowledge of physical infrastructure servers along with a basic understanding of network devices (e.g., physical cabling, optics, and interconnectivities) to extend onsite support for remote Network teams and Network ISPs personnel. All outage events will be performed under the supervision and guidance of Site Management. Preferred Technical and Professional Experience: May be directed to perform other duties consistent with the training and skill levels required for this position. Ability to understand site capacity utilization and provide assistance to Management with capacity planning.
