Job Description

Job Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Design Manager to lead the design and development of railway products and components, including rolling stock, railway equipment, and infrastructure-related systems. The ideal candidate will manage a team of designers and engineers, oversee design processes, ensure compliance with railway standards, and collaborate with cross-functional departments to deliver innovative and reliable solutions for the railway sector. Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage the entire design lifecycle of railway products from concept to production. Coordinate with R&D, production, quality, and procurement teams to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability. Develop 2D/3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and detailed technical documentation. Ensure compliance with Indian Railways (RDSO) and international railway standards. Conduct design reviews and validation processes including FEA, simulations, and prototyping. Manage and mentor a team of design engineers and draftsmen. Review customer specifications and prepare technical proposals. Ensure timely delivery of design projects while maintaining quality and cost efficiency. Drive innovation in product design, material use, and manufacturing processes. Liaise with clients, vendors, and certification bodies as required. Key Skills & Competencies: Expertise in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo). Strong understanding of railway design codes (RDSO, UIC, EN, AAR, etc.). Project management and team leadership skills. Knowledge of manufacturing processes (fabrication, machining, assembly). Familiarity with FEA and simulation tools. Attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Effective verbal and written communication. Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field. 8–12 years of experience in mechanical/product design, preferably in the railway or heavy engineering sector. Prior experience managing a design team is required. Experience with Indian Railways or PSU projects is a strong advantage. Preferred Traits: Familiarity with ISO, IRIS, and other quality management systems. Exposure to digital engineering tools and PLM systems. Passion for railways and public infrastructure innovation.
