Job Purpose
The Data Center operation Manager is responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of a mission-critical data center facility. This role ensures high availability, reliability, and operational efficiency of infrastructure systems including power, cooling, physical security, and fire/life safety systems. The operation manager will lead a team of technicians and vendors to maintain a 24/7 operational environment while ensuring compliance with industry best practices and company standards.
Roles & responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the data center including HVAC, UPS, generators, electrical systems, and fire suppression.
- Managing tower leads ,shift engineering, partners /OEM engineers at site & local operations centers/NOC engineers
- Manage customer SLAs, tracking energy usage , reduce penalties, help in bottom line P&L improvement etc.
- Support vendor management, customer visits, vendor evaluation, asset management and tracking of critical DC assets
- Critical incident management, root cause analysis and running the crisis calls during critical outages
- Monitor the local Facility Engineering /BMS & DCIM/ outsourced team whose responsibilities are to maintain the data center facility infrastructure and ensure critical IT infra is in healthy condition.
- Ensure IT asset and waste disposal in an extremely secured manner especially those in statutory compliance list
- Participate and own local DC staff hiring, training, management, retention and their career management.
- Implement operational & ISO standards, infrastructure components, support and compliance to Information Security policy and safety procedures.
- Carry out and participate in regular site compliance audit and maintain full compliance to various standards e.g ISO 27001, ISO 20 K, PCIDSS, ISO 14000 etc
- Enforce safety protocols and maintain compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and other relevant local codes.
- Liaising with all other DC teams , vendors and external parties& local authorities as SPOC on various operational issues .
- Create ,execute and maintain documentation including SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs.
- Develop, implement, and monitor preventive and corrective maintenance programs
- Schedule and carry out periodic maintenance for critical systems e.g UPS, DG, Transformer, BMS ,EPMS , SCADA ,GIS, power transformers etc and other supporting infrastructure to ensure sustained operational life
- Ensure teams are adhering to a Health & Safety standard
- Manage the remote and smart hands teams for customer support & touch services .
- Creating and monitoring dashboards for critical KPIs, SLAs, etc.
- Daily/weekly/monthly MIS/KPI/SLA tracking and reporting
- Any other responsibility that would be assigned by the management
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: (Degree, training, or certification CDCP/CDCE/ATD required)
BE/B-Tech or equivalent in electrical or Electronics & Communications.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE: (no. of years of technical, functional, and/or leadership experience or specific exposure required)
- 10-15 Years of hands-on and relevant experience in managing DC & IT infrastructure services
- Strong knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems.
- Familiarity with building management systems (BMS), DCIM tools, and SCADA platforms
- Knowledge of data center standards (TIA-942, ASHRAE, Uptime Institute, etc.).
- Experience with sustainable/green data center practices.
- Expertise in Design/operations and maintenance of Data Centers and related MEP Services
- Should have managed large i.e., 20 to 30 plus team members in 24x7 mode to manage critical Data Center Infrastructure, networking, and Security monitoring and L1/L2/L3 support
- Must possess Certifications related to Data Center management
- Excellent incident management skills and customer communication, root cause analysis and problem management skills
- Experience in managing customer facing activities e.g provision of COLO and infrastructure &services
- Must be an experience of people management leader with people management skills in DC and critical IT infrastructure management operations.
- Adept in designing ad hoc power & cooling solution for high density servers including air cooled and liquid cooled setup , hot & cold aisle architecture and for hyperscale setup .
- Must be aware on managing thermal and cooling environment including temperature /humidity and uptime as per Tier-3 & Tier-4 datacenter topologies .
- Must be familiar with different OEM and their product in field of power /UPS/PDUs and cooling including chillers /DX units /PAHU /Fan-Wall-Units etc
- Must be familiar for simulation of heat-load & CFD modelling thermography of electrical system etc
- Experience in testing and commissioning of MEP system from FAT to L4 & L5 for hyperscale datacenters
- Ability to work in a 24/7/365 environment, including on-call responsibilities.
- Proficiency in MS office and related applications
- Competent in people leadership, communication and presentation skills
