Assisting with procedures:
Cath lab technicians play a crucial role in assisting cardiologists during procedures like angioplasty, stent placement, and electrophysiology studies.
Patient preparation and monitoring:
They prepare patients for procedures by taking vital signs, starting IVs, reviewing medical history, and explaining the process. They also monitor patients during procedures, observing vital signs and reporting any abnormalities.
Equipment operation and maintenance:
Cath lab technicians operate specialized equipment like hemodynamic monitoring systems, imaging machines (fluoroscopy), and defibrillators. They also ensure the equipment is properly maintained and troubleshoot any issues.
Maintaining sterile field and supplies:
They prepare and maintain the sterile field and equipment necessary for procedures, including setting up catheterization trays and organizing supplies.
Post-procedure care:
They provide post-procedure care, including monitoring vascular access sites for complications and applying pressure or closure devices as needed.
Documentation and record-keeping:
Cath lab technicians accurately document patient procedures and maintain medical records.
Emergency response:
They assist in emergency situations, such as during angioplasty or stent placement procedures, and must be able to respond quickly and calmly.
Patient education and support:
