Cardiovascular technologists perform a variety of duties related to the diagnosis and treatment of heart and blood vessel conditions. Their responsibilities include performing tests, monitoring patients, assisting in procedures, and educating patients about their condition and treatment options . Here's a more detailed breakdown of their duties:1. Performing Diagnostic Tests: EKGs/ECGs: Attach electrodes to patients and operate the EKG machine to record heart activity. Stress Tests: Connect patients to EKG monitors and record their heart activity during physical exertion on a treadmill or other exercise equipment. Holter Monitoring: Place electrodes on patients and attach a portable EKG monitor for extended periods to record heart activity throughout the day and night. Ultrasound (Echocardiography): Collect ultrasound echoes to visualize the heart's structure and function. Peripheral Vascular Tests: Perform non-invasive tests to assess blood flow and circulation in the extremities. 2. Monitoring Patients: Vital Signs: Continuously monitor heart rate, blood pressure, and other vital signs during tests and procedures. Patient Safety: Ensure patient comfort and safety during procedures and tests. Emergency Response: Alert physicians to any abnormalities or serious medical issues detected during monitoring. 3. Assisting in Procedures: Invasive Cardiology: Assist physicians with procedures like catheterization, angioplasty, and stent implants.
