API Designer

Roles and Responsibilities:

• API Strategy & Design:

  Lead the design and definition of RESTful APIs, GraphQL APIs, and other integration patterns, ensuring they are consistent, reusable, scalable, and secure.

• Requirements Analysis:

  Work closely with product owners, business analysts, and development teams to translate business requirements into clear, precise, and comprehensive API specifications.

• API Documentation:

  Create and maintain thorough API documentation using tools like Swagger/OpenAPI Specification, ensuring developers and consumers can easily understand and utilize the APIs.

• Standards & Governance:

  Establish and enforce API design guidelines, standards, and best practices across the organization. Conduct API design reviews to ensure adherence to these standards.

• Collaboration:

  Act as a key liaison between various development teams, fostering collaboration to ensure API designs meet the needs of all consumers and providers.

• Tooling & Automation:

  Identify and evaluate tools to support API design, mocking, testing, and governance. Potentially assist in automating parts of the API lifecycle.

• Troubleshooting & Support:

  Provide expertise and guidance in troubleshooting API-related issues, helping to diagnose problems with integrations and data flows.

• Version Control:

  Manage API versions effectively to ensure backward compatibility and smooth transitions for API consumers.

• Security Principles:

  Incorporate security best practices (e.g., authentication, authorization, data encryption) into API designs from the outset.

Preferred Candidate Profile:

• API Design Expertise:

  Strong hands-on experience in designing and documenting

  RESTful APIs

  and understanding of API design principles (e.g., HATEOAS, idempotency).

• API Specification Tools:

  Proficient with API design and documentation tools such as

  Swagger/OpenAPI Specification

• Technical Communication:

  Excellent ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and understandable API specifications and documentation.

• Integration Knowledge:

  Solid understanding of various integration patterns, data formats (JSON, XML), and communication protocols (HTTP/HTTPS).

• Problem-Solving:

  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous approach to defining API contracts.

• Programming Concepts:

  Familiarity with programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, Node.js) to understand how APIs are consumed and implemented.

• Communication & Collaboration:

  Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to articulate API designs and collaborate effectively with diverse technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Education:

  Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related engineering discipline.
