Job Description: Line / Plant Quality Lead

Position: Line / Plant Quality Lead

Reporting to: Line & Customer Quality Head

No. of Direct Reports: 4 to 6

No. of Indirect Reports: 18 to 24

Key Purpose of the Job :

The Plant Quality Lead is responsible for implementing systems, process and procedures to ensure end product meets Elgi quality assurance code and guidelines. Addressing and resolving inprocess quality issues raised through customer complaints and improvement of inprocess quality is critical to the role holder. The role holder is responsible to implement quality initiatives , improvement activities and special projects in alignment to quality strategy and guidelines.

Educational Qualification / Experience required :

Graduate degree in Engineering
Certifications in Quality concepts / tools
Experience of 10 to 12 years in quality function, from manufacturing sector
Should possess knowledge on compressor and subsystems
Should possess experience in ISO environment
Should have experience in lean quality systems

Key Responsibilities :

1. Define and implement quality objectives, principles and guidelines for Work in Progress (WIP), in process and PDI in production / assembly line
2. Responsible to address end user customer complaints resulting from in process defects / gaps in production / assembly process 3. Define, develop and implement projects on proactive basis, initiatives for quality improvement 4. Responsible for managing the team

Task Analysis:

Indicative Tasks

1. Define and implement quality objectives, principles and guidelines for Work in Progress (WIP), in process and PDI in production / assembly line

Define quality processes, systems, establish procedures, controls, guidelines to be followed to ensure delivery of quality assured end products as relevant to the product / assembly line

Set up processes for quality team to follow on daily basis including inspections, testing, reporting and other measures to evaluate quality standard of the product at each stage of production / assembly

Ensure quality team is provided with adequate training, reinforcement inputs to ensure no gaps / discrepancies in understanding of testing / evaluation procedures

Incorporate on going quality improvement projects and inferences to regular quality control procedures, as and when relevant

Review existing quality control / assurance procedures periodically, conduct audits, random checks to validate quality processes

2. Responsible to address end user customer complaints resulting from in process defects / gaps in production / assembly process

Review customer complaints resulting through issues / activities in production / assembly line process

Identify gaps / discrepancies and define issues / problems, as necessary

Address customer complaints leading to warranty claims due to gaps in production processes through study, in-depth analysis, process improvements, tools and other techniques

Initiate actions to reduce warranty claims resulting from gaps / discrepancies in production / assembly line

Institute CAPAs, collaborate with stake holders to study, analyze, resolve issues / problem areas (for example, ME inputs in process)

Establish change in processes and take action, as necessary to standardize the resolutions to ensure non recurrence / repeat of similar issues

Develop, implement MSOPs, revised SOPs, as necessary and conduct sustenance audits to ensure no recurrence / repeat in customer complaints in same areas

3. Define, develop and implement projects on proactive basis, initiatives for quality improvement

Review actions taken on recurrent and critical issues raised by Production and Quality and ensure quick resolutions by team

Institute processes for data collection, analysis on quality issues faced and track the timely collection and processing of necessary data

Monitor ongoing audits conducted by line quality and ensure they are completed as per stipulated timelines

Implement projects to address quality gaps / defects identified and ensure standardization of resolution in processes, as applicable

Track progress on developing and implementation of quality tools such as Visual Standards, SOPs, MSOPs as required and address GEMBA in critical problem areas

Lead Reviews of EMS, Control Points, EITs and CFTs to track overall status of quality implementation as per Elgi guidelines

Implement projects to address long standing quality issues ensuring closure

Conduct random audits of processes followed, specialized audits such as product, dock audit to help increase customer satisfaction with Elgi products

Collaborate with Production to develop and deliver training, instructions on quality issues, ISO standards and others

Review training material, develop standardized content, as necessary

Track the completion status of QMS documentation including part drawings, process flows, SOPs and ensure team prepares / updates these, as required

Ensure adherence to targets defined for team, overall increase in execution of quality processes as per defined SOPs and reduction in non-compliances

4. Responsible for managing the team

Develop annual targets / goal sheets / control points along with team in alignment to functional goals

Plan, manage allocation of work among team members

Provide inputs and On-the-job training (OJT) to team on SOPs, MSOPs and relevant documentation processes

Conduct training to educate Quality, Production to appraise them of latest / revised quality procedures and systems

Motivate team to follow quality process to achieve set error reduction targets and higher quality standards
