Summary of role: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Credit Underwriter to join our team, focusing on SME loans within the UK market. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of credit analysis principles, risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory requirements specific to SME lending in the UK. As a Credit Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in evaluating loan applications, mitigating credit risk, and ensuring the overall quality of our loan portfolio. Main duties and responsibilities are (but not limited to): Conduct thorough credit assessments of SME loan applications, including financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant documentation, to determine creditworthiness. Review credit bureau reports & commercial reports (like CIBIL, Experian) and background reports to determine degree of risk involved with providing unsecured business loans. Analyse UK businesses- bank statements to validate if HMRC (VAT & PAYE) payments and to identify loan repayments Approve or decline business loans within the authority assigned, follow the underwriting criteria & guidelines, propose cases for approvals to senior manager which are above the approval limit. Analyse business operations, industry trends, and market conditions to assess the viability and risk associated with potential loan applicants. Utilize credit scoring models and risk assessment tools to evaluate borrower creditworthiness and determine appropriate loan terms and conditions.
