SUMMARY The Mobile Materials Handling business in Nordco (a Wabtec Company), a customer-focused business utilizing continuous improvement and creative thinking to foster a culture of exceeding customers expectations, is looking for a Mechanical Engineer. This position will require leading the Technical Publications function for Nordco s Maintenance of Way (MOW) product line, by delivering accurate, user-centric, and compliant documentation that supports product safety, serviceability, and customer satisfaction across Wabtec sites. Mission To build and lead a high-performing technical publications team that delivers world-class documentation for Nordco MOW products, enabling safe and efficient operation and maintenance by end users across the globe. REPORTING Reports To: Director of Engineering Indirect Reports: Team of Technical Writers, Illustrators, and Documentation Engineers Key Interfaces: Product Engineering Teams (US & India) Field Service & Customer Support Manufacturing & Quality Teams Product Management Digital Solutions & IT (for CMS and publishing tools) ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Lead the creation, revision, and delivery of technical documentation including operation manuals, service manuals, parts catalogs, and training materials. Guide and mentor junior engineers and technical writers. Translate engineering content into effective maintenance instructions. Review and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and system/component data. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and validate technical content. Ensure documentation complies with industry standards (e.g., ATA, S1000D) and customer requirements. Use authoring and illustration tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, Creo Illustrate, and SolidWorks Composer. Utilize CAD tools (e.g., CREO, SolidWorks) to interpret customer-supplied inputs (no design work required). Implement quality control processes to maintain high documentation standards. Provide accurate estimates for various TechPub activities (Electrical, Hydraulic, Display systems). Support digital transformation initiatives including interactive manuals and mobile-accessible content. Travel to customer sites and manufacturing locations (domestic and international) to gather firsthand product knowledge and validate documentation. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Education: Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. Experience: 8-12 years of experience in technical publications, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role. Industry Exposure: Proven experience in Maintenance of Way (MOW) equipment or similar heavy machinery. Relevant background in industries such as rail, mining, construction, agricultural machinery, or heavy equipment manufacturing (e.g., Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, Volvo CE). Technical Skills: Proficiency in technical writing, editing, and documentation standards Skilled in authoring and illustration tools such as Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, Creo Illustrate, and SolidWorks Composer. Familiarity with CAD tools (CREO, SolidWorks) for interpreting engineering inputs. Ability to estimate effort and scope for various documentation tasks (Electrical, Hydraulic, Display systems). Language & Communication: Strong command of written and spoken English. Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Effective communicator with internal teams and external stakeholders. Behavioral Competencies: Ability to guide, mentor, and inspire a team of writers and illustrators.
