Job Description

Job Summary: The Marine Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and testing electrical systems and equipment onboard ships under construction or repair. This includes working with high and low voltage systems, lighting, power distribution, control panels, and electronic systems as per maritime standards and safety protocols. Key Responsibilities: Install electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment in ships according to blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications. Lay and connect cables, including power, control, and communication systems. Test and troubleshoot electrical systems using appropriate tools and diagnostic devices. Perform continuity checks, insulation resistance tests, and other quality control procedures. Repair and replace defective components such as motors, generators, transformers, and switchboards. Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other trades (e.g., welders, fitters) to ensure integration of electrical systems. Ensure all work complies with safety regulations, maritime standards (e.g., ABS, DNV, IMO), and company policies. Read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and electrical code specifications. Document installation, repair, and maintenance activities for record-keeping and compliance audits. Assist during sea trials and commissioning of vessels. Requirements:Education & Experience: Diploma or ITI in Electrical Engineering, Marine Electrical, or related field. Minimum 2–5 years of relevant experience in shipbuilding or marine electrical systems. Skills & Competencies: Strong knowledge of marine electrical systems and components. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical diagrams. Proficiency in using electrical tools, meters, and testing equipment.
