Key responsibilities

Lead FHIR Mapping Strategy: Analyze data elements in a relational database within Databricks to define mappings to relevant HL7 FHIR R4 resources (e.g., Patient, Encounter, Observation, Condition, Procedure, Medication Request, Coverage, Claim, Explanation Of Benefit).

Develop and Document Mappings: Knowledge of how to adhere to standards and relevant Implementation Guides (e.g., US Core).

Collaborate with data engineers to translate mapping specifications into transformation logic (using Py Spark, SQL within Databricks environment) to generate FHIR JSON bundles/resources.

Collaborate with the DE team to guide the loading of the FHIR resources into the Azure FHIR API, ensuring reliability and performance.

Ensure FHIR Compliance & Validation: Implement and oversee validation processes to ensure generated FHIR resources conform to the FHIR R4 specification, relevant profiles (e.g., US Core), and terminology bindings (SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-10, etc.). Troubleshoot and resolve validation errors.

Must work effectively with data architects, data engineers, customers SMEs, and project managers to understand source data context, refine data models, and ensure the FHIR implementation meets project requirements.

Qualifications

Experience working with HL7 FHIR standard (specifically R4):

Experience in mapping clinical and/or claims data to FHIR resources.

Familiarity on how to look up FHIR Implementation Guides.
