Role Overview

Search Developer

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain scalable search modules using Java and SOLR for consumer-facing websites and enterprise applications.
• Create, optimize, and manage SOLR indexes with large and varied datasets (100+ million documents).
• Fine-tune search platforms to maximize search relevance and performance.
• Implement advanced SOLR features such as schema design, tokenizers, filters, and faceting.
• Integrate SOLR with various data sources and ensure real-time or batch indexing processes.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues with SOLR querying, indexing, and search application performance.
• Work closely with business stakeholders to gather requirements and improve user experience by enhancing search features.
• Collaborate with infrastructure teams for the management, backup, and disaster recovery of SOLR environments.
• Guide junior developers and advise on best practices in Java and SOLR search development.
• Participate in Agile or Scrum-based development processes, including requirements gathering, development, and deployment.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 7 years’ experience in Java development (Java/J2EE, Spring frameworks, ORM tools).
• Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with Apache SOLR, including SOLRCloud and index management.
• Proficiency in designing and optimizing SOLR schemas, analyzers, tokenizers, filters, and queries.
• Strong experience with REST/Java APIs, batch processing, and real-time data ingestion.
• Familiarity with SQL or NoSQL databases for data integration and reporting.
• Experience with multithreading, distributed systems, and troubleshooting large-scale search platforms.
• Knowledge of monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability search deployments.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience gathering requirements from stakeholders.

Preferred/Additional Skills

• Experience with other search technologies (Lucene, Elasticsearch).
• Familiarity with DevOps tools (Git, Jenkins, JIRA, Bamboo) and Linux/Unix environments.
• Exposure to e-commerce, finance, healthcare, or large-scale consumer web platforms.
• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
