• Technical Skills

• Measurement & Cost Estimation

• Accurate quantity take-offs (OHL structures, substation equipment, cable routes, civil foundations).
• Use of software like CostX, Candy, or Excel-based BOQ tools.

• Contract Management

• Familiarity with NEC,FIDIC, JCT, and bespoke contract forms used in T&D.
• Understanding of contractual obligations for EPC and Design & Build projects.

• Valuation & Payment Applications

• Interim payment applications, variations, and final accounts.
• Assessing subcontractor valuations.

• Cost Control & Forecasting

• Budget tracking and earned value management.
• CVR (Cost Value Reconciliation) preparation and reporting.

• Risk & Value Management

• Identification of commercial and contractual risks.
• Proposals for value engineering opportunities.

• Procurement & Tendering

• Preparation of tender documentation and evaluation of contractor/supplier bids.
• Supplier/contractor negotiations.

• Sector-Specific Knowledge

• OHL (Overhead Lines)

• Steel lattice/tubular structures, pole erection costs, stringing, and access arrangements.
• Wayleave and easement compensation understanding.

• Substations

• Civil and MEP works, GIS/AIS equipment, and balance-of-plant cost assessment.

• Cabling

• Underground HV/LV cable routes, trenching, ducting, joint bays, reinstatement.

• Civils

• Earthworks, foundations, drainage, fencing, roads, and access tracks for T&D sites.

• Soft Skills & Tools

• Stakeholder Communication

• Ability to liaise with engineering, site, planning, and finance teams.
• Clear presentation of commercial issues.

• Analytical Thinking

• Identifying trends, discrepancies, and opportunities from commercial data.

• Software Proficiency

• Excel (advanced), SAP, Oracle, CATO, Primavera (P6), AutoCAD for measurement purposes.

• Regulatory & Safety Awareness

• Knowledge of health & safety requirements and CDM regulations in power projects.
• Awareness of local utility and DNO standards .
