Product Design Engineer

Key Skills:

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Design and develop plastic interior trim components such as air vents, glovebox, armrests, and cup holders.
• Ensure product designs meet customer requirements, standards, and specifications.
• Conduct concept analysis using master sections and perform feasibility studies based on input data.
• Manage customer interactions independently with a proactive and problem-solving approach.
• Lead and mentor a team of designers while managing end-to-end product development.
• Demonstrate expertise in plastic tooling, manufacturing processes, and post-processing methods.
• Apply RPS & fixation principles, perform tolerance stack-up analysis, and interpret GD&T.
• Understand and define functional and fitment (F&F) requirements of products.
• Proficiently use CAD software such as CATIA V5 and NX; DMU simulation experience is an added advantage.
• Implement design methodologies like DFMEA, DFM, MFA, DFA.
• Select appropriate materials based on product requirements and manufacturing location.
• Independently create BOMs, grain mapping, and key characteristic (KC) lists.
• Collaborate with CAE/CFD teams for air vent virtual analysis and validation.
• Ensure high-quality product design performance in line with customer specifications and regulatory standards.
• Maintain comprehensive design issue logs and document lessons learned throughout the project lifecycle.
• Communicate effectively with offshore teams and customers at various locations.
• Travel to customer locations as per project requirements.
• Support projects through TKO until SOP + 3 months.
• Translate design performance criteria into precise CAD data and technical specifications.

Experience Requirement:

• 8-15 years of experience in automotive interior product design, specifically in components such as air vents, glovebox, cup holders, and armrests.
• Proven experience in customer-facing roles and team leadership.
• Strong background in plastic part design, tooling, and manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency in CAD tools like CATIA V5 and NX; experience with DMU fitting and kinematics is a plus.
• Familiarity with CAE, CFD validation methods, and mechanical simulation processes.
• Practical knowledge of DFMEA, DFA, DFM, and GD&T.
• Excellent communication, project coordination, and issue resolution skills.
