System Engineer

As a System Engineer at Barclays, your role will involve supporting the successful delivery of Location Strategy projects. You will be responsible for planning, budgeting, maintaining agreed quality standards, and ensuring governance standards are met. Your main focus will be on evolving the digital landscape, driving innovation, and ensuring excellence in digital offerings to provide unparalleled customer experiences. Key Responsibilities: - Designing, developing, and improving software using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. - Collaborating with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure alignment with business objectives. - Participating in code reviews, promoting a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing. - Staying informed about industry technology trends and actively contributing to the organization's technology communities. - Adhering to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities and protect sensitive data. - Implementing effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability. Qualifications Required: - Bachelor's/masters or equivalent degree from a recognized university. - Minimum 5 years of experience in programming in JAVA language. - Experience with Open Source or 3rd Party Libraries such as Log4j, Hibernate, Liquibase. - Proficiency in service patterns and protocols covering Web Services, API, REST, RPC. - Experience with messaging systems including MQ, Kafka, & Mule. - Good knowledge of Angular/react framework, HTML, and front-end programming principles. - Strong understanding of Systems Development Lifecycle. - Experience with CI and build tools such as Jenkins or Gitlab. - Familiarity with SCRUM and Kanban agile methodologies, including tools like Jira. - Good understanding of SCM tools like GIT, TFS, etc. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Proactive nature, team player, and possess a can-do attitude. Desirable Skills: - Previous experience within the financial services industry. - Previous experience working with global teams. - Understanding of AWS, Microservice/API-oriented architectures.
