Job Description

The Costing Engineer will be responsible for analyzing, preparing, and optimizing the cost structure for automotive seating components and systems. This role involves close collaboration with design, procurement, manufacturing, and finance teams to ensure cost-effective solutions throughout the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:1. Cost Estimation & Analysis

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for automotive seating components (frames, trims, foams, mechanisms).
  • Analyze BOMs (Bill of Materials), process flow, and supplier quotations.
  • Validate and reconcile actual cost vs estimated cost.

2. Product Development Support

  • Provide cost inputs during design and development stages (DFM/DFA).
  • Support the engineering and sales teams with cost implications during RFQs and NPI (New Product Introduction).
  • Suggest design modifications to optimize cost.

3. Supplier & Material Costing

  • Work with sourcing and procurement teams to gather and analyze supplier cost data.
  • Evaluate raw material cost trends (steel, foam, textiles, plastics).
  • Benchmark supplier costs to ensure competitiveness.

4. Cost Optimization & Value Engineering

  • Participate in value engineering and VA/VE projects to reduce cost without compromising quality.
  • Support continuous improvement and lean initiatives for cost reduction.

5. Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare and maintain costing reports, presentations, and cost breakdowns.
  • Maintain cost database and historical costing records for reference.
  • Support audits and financial reporting related to product costing.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Automobile/Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years of experience in cost estimation or cost engineering, preferably in the automotive seating or interior systems domain.
  • Familiarity with costing tools, ERP systems (SAP/Oracle), and MS Excel (advanced).
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes: welding, stamping, foam molding, trimming, assembly, etc.

  • Analytical and data interpretation skills
  • Negotiation and communication skills
  • Cost modeling and benchmarking
  • Knowledge of automotive quality standards (IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP)

Preferred:

  • Experience with OEM/Tier-1 automotive suppliers.
  • Exposure to global sourcing or cost modeling tools (e.g., aPriori, CES Selector).
  • Familiarity with CAD software (for reviewing designs and tolerances).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹40,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
