Head of Power Trading Operations
Area Responsibilities
Strategy & Business - Develop and implement long-term and short-term trading strategies focused on maximizing profits from renewable assets on IEX.
- Set up business processes, systems, and team structure for the trading division.
- Oversee market entry, membership, and regulatory requirements for trading on exchanges.
Leadership & People - Lead, mentor, and set performance standards for the Power Trading team.
- Foster a results-driven, compliant, and collaborative culture.
- Represent the company externally at regulatory bodies, exchange meetings, and industry forums.
Trading & Risk Mgmt - Supervise risk management frameworks; ensure robust price forecasting and risk mitigation.
- Approve large positions, hedging strategies, and new product launches.
- Lead negotiations and decision-making for significant proprietary trades and back-to-back contracts.
Regulatory & Compliance - Ensure full compliance with CERC, IEX, and other regulatory bodies’ rules and requirements.
- Oversee all regulatory filings and documentation.
Stakeholder Mgmt - Liaise with internal teams (finance, investments, PPA, asset ops) and external partners (utilities, regulators, customers).
- Identify and onboard new market opportunities (e.g., GTAM, REC trades).
Innovation & Growth - Guide research and implementation for new business models—e.g., contract-for-difference (CfD), virtual PPAs, market-linked products.
Qualifications:
12–15 years’ experience in energy/power trading, with at least 5 in a leadership or strategic role.
Key Skills:
Strong leadership, commercial acumen, regulatory knowledge, analytical, and communication skills.
Senior Manager
Area Responsibilities
Trading Operations - Develop and execute power trading strategies for DAM/RTM/GTAM on IEX.
- Structure, price, and execute spot and term deals.
- Prepare regular, actionable market analysis and trading reports for management.
Market Analysis - Monitor and analyze market trends (price movements, weather, regulatory events).
- Provide actionable insights and propose trading adjustments.
- Support market forecasting and portfolio management.
Risk Management - Suggest and implement approved hedging/risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure trades are executed within risk limits and compliance standards.
- Maintain discipline in approvals/escalations for complex trades.
Business Dev. - Identify new trading opportunities (open access, third-party sales, REC/ESCerts).
- Handle key client relationships and support business development activities.
Compliance & Process - Coordinate regulatory and reporting compliance tasks.
- Maintain accurate trading documentation and ensure audit-readiness.
- Suggest and implement process improvements.
Team Support - Mentor and guide manager(s) and analysts.
- Back up the Head as needed; support training and operational continuity.
Qualifications:
Relevant certifications preferred.
7–10 years’ experience in Indian power trading, with hands-on experience in exchange/renewables.
Key Skills:
Excellent quantitative, analytical, and market-monitoring skills.
Regulatory awareness; MS Excel and trading platforms proficiency; client-facing abilities.
Manager
Area Responsibilities
Trading Execution - Place bids and execute trades (DAM, RTM, TAM, GTAM) on IEX in alignment with strategy.
Scheduling & Settlement - Coordinate with SLDC, RLDC, and asset teams to ensure accurate scheduling, delivery, and settlement.
Data & Reporting - Maintain trade logs, update positions, and report trades to seniors.
- Monitor portfolio positions and deviations.
Market and Regulatory - Track regulatory changes; flag non-compliance risks; maintain up-to-date process checklists.
Communication - Liaise between internal asset ops, finance, and trading/ risk teams.
Support & Admin - Support team in documentation, contract execution, and audit preparation.
- Assist in market surveys & analytics.
Qualifications:
2–5 years’ experience in power/energy trading or scheduling.
Key Skills:
Fast learning, good with systems and numbers, disciplined, detail-oriented.
Familiarity with IEX trading, energy scheduling, and Excel.
