Ensuring the reliability, availability, and performance of large-scale software systems through a combination of software engineering and systems administration.
Key responsibilities involve automating operational tasks, designing and building scalable systems, monitoring performance, implementing monitoring and alerting, responding to incidents, and collaborating with developers to improve systems.
They balance feature development with system stability by using software to solve operational problems.
