Job Description

Role Overview: As the Lead Hardware Development Engineer at The EPlane Company, your ultimate challenge is to build the brain of the aircraft by creating the high-integrity Flight Control Computer (FCC) and Mission Computer from scratch. You will be driving the architecture for flight-critical computers and overseeing all aspects of their hardware and FPGA development. Your expertise in designing complex, high-reliability hardware and deep knowledge of the DO-254 certification process will be crucial for this role. Key Responsibilities: - Architect High-Integrity Computers: Define end-to-end hardware architecture, specify multicore processors, lockstep configurations, memory partitioning schemes, and redundancy management to meet safety requirements. - Lead Hardware Development: Manage external vendors or in-house design teams, serving as the primary technical authority. - Lead DO-254 Verification: Audit and verify all DO-254 artifacts and design processes to ensure certifiability. - Hands-on FPGA Development: Develop complex logic in FPGAs for critical functions like sensor interfaces, image processing pipelines, and data routing. - Perform Critical Analysis: Conduct latency and timing analysis, define memory budgets, and architectures like ECC and NVM. - Define Systems Interface: Collaborate with systems and software teams to ensure hardware design aligns with safety requirements. - Lead Verification & Validation: Develop and execute comprehensive hardware verification plans using simulation, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and formal verification methods. Qualifications Required: - Experience: 8+ years in safety-critical electronic hardware development. - Education: Bachelors or Masters in Electronics, Electrical, or Computer Engineering. - DO-254 Expertise: Practical experience in DO-254 DAL A or B certification process. - Safety-Critical Architecture: Proven experience in designing high-reliability embedded computer architectures. - RTOS & Partitioning: Knowledge of ARINC 653 principles and hardware-level implementation. - FPGA Mastery: Proficiency in VHDL or Verilog and experience with FPGA toolchains. - Systems & Software Interface: Understanding of ARP4754A systems engineering process and DO-254 / DO-178C interface. - BSP Knowledge: Understanding of hardware components required for BSP development. - Avionics & Mixed-Signal Design: Experience in standard avionics interfaces and mixed-signal design. - Best Practices: Familiarity with safety-critical hardware design best practices.
