R&D Senior Engineer – Validation (Device connectivity)

Your role and responsibilities:

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABBs success with technology, software, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team.

This role is contributing to the Electrification Business Area for the Smart Buildings Division based in Hyderabad.

The ideal candidate plays a crucial role in ensuring cloud-based systems function reliably, securely, and efficiently.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Validate IoT devices for connectivity, interoperability, and security across various networks.
• Hands-on experience with Serial communication protocols (IRDA, RS232 etc.) / Field-bus architectures (Profibus, Modbus, CANbus, etc.)
• Strong knowledge of IoT communication protocols (MQTT, CoAP, HTTP, WebSockets). Conduct functional, performance, and stress testing for IoT solutions.
• Must have good understanding of: Device connection device registration; connecting smart devices over MQTT and HTTPS protocols, with high availability and auto-scaling clusters.
• Device control and management - manage the life cycle of connected devices and standard instruction models for device control.
• Monitor and troubleshoot device connectivity issues across Wi-Fi, BLE, LoRaWAN, and cellular networks.
• Work with cloud platforms (AWS IoT, Azure IoT Hub, Google Cloud IoT) for device data management. Implement security validation measures, including encryption and authentication protocols.
• Collaborate with hardware and software teams to optimize IoT device performance. Work with development and IT teams to integrate cloud solutions effectively. Provide technical documentation and validation reports for compliance audits.

Qualifications for the role:

• B. Tech/M. Tech in CSE/ECE/EE from reputed institutes with 8+ years of hands-on experience in Firmware/Software validation.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Familiarity with testing frameworks for IoT validation.
• Understanding of network security, encryption, and authentication.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies and Git
