Primary Function
The Process Technician is responsible for performing as a vital team member in monitoring and operating critical equipment in the chemical manufacturing process to ensure operational efficiency in a safe and environmentally conscience manner.
Duties & Responsibilities
Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:
- Operate process related equipment and plant process control systems in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
- Optimize plant performance by monitoring process equipment and conditions using information systems including: process levels, temperatures, pressures and flow rates.
- Perform inspections in assigned area of responsibility, identifying abnormalities, documenting findings, notifying management, and completing corrective actions where necessary.
- Responsible for performing process equipment troubleshooting, routine equipment repairs, improvements and preventive maintenance.
- Perform basic lab analysis on product samples to ensure process and quality standards.
- Operate water and waste water treatment plants.
- Document readings on assigned checklists and logbooks.
- Perform leak patrol and respond/report to any readings as indicated.
- Comply with all Safety and Environmental Reporting Procedures.
- Act as a Champion of Safety, identifying safety concerns and intervening when unsafe behaviors are observed.
- Identify opportunities for improvement in areas of production, safety, environmental, and quality, offering ideas for implementation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 4 years of manufacturing or related military experience is required. An accredited Associate’s degree in Chemical Process /Chemical Technology or a Bachelor's degree is required in lieu of experience.
Job Qualifications
- Ability to become certified in all process units within five years’ time.
- Ability to be certified as a member of the Fire Brigade; attending required classes for recertification when necessary.
- Ability to prioritize tasks to minimize impact on production.
- Basic understanding of math and verbal reasoning skills.
- Communicate effectively amongst co-workers and management.
- Willing and able to work all applicable shifts on a rotating basis (including weekends and holidays) and work overtime when needed.
Physical Requirements
Candidate must be able to:
- Lift up-to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds frequently.
- Stand or walk for extended periods of time.
- Climb stairs/ladders and work at heights.
- Comply with respirator fit tests (where applicable).
- Bend, reach, and stoop frequently.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as respirators, earplugs, goggles, hard hat, and steel-toed boots.
Work Environment
- PVC manufacturing facility, in presence of chemicals.
- Occasionally work in tight or closed-in spaces.
- Work outdoors, in sometimes inclement weather.
- Moderate noise-level and environmental vibration related to equipment.
