Job Description

We're seeking a highly experienced and motivated Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Programmer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience designing, developing, testing, and commissioning PLC and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) software for complex industrial automation systems. This role requires a strong understanding of industrial networking, controls hardware, and a proven ability to troubleshoot and optimize existing production lines. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the lifecycle of our automation projects, from initial concept through final acceptance. Key Responsibilities Design and Development: Design, develop, and implement complex PLC programs from scratch (using Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram, etc.) for new and existing automation equipment, primarily using platforms like Allen-Bradley (Rockwell Automation), Siemens, Mitsubishi, or similar. Develop and configure HMI/SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) screens for user interface, data acquisition, and control. System Integration: Integrate PLC systems with industrial networks, robotics, vision systems, motion control, and other production equipment. Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profibus, Modbus TCP/IP, etc.). Testing and Commissioning: Conduct rigorous testing, simulation, and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for all control systems. Travel to client or company sites for system installation, startup, and commissioning, ensuring systems meet specified operational requirements. Support and Optimization: Provide expert-level technical support and troubleshooting for complex controls issues on the production floor. Lead continuous improvement efforts to optimize cycle times, reduce downtime, and enhance system reliability and safety. Documentation and Standards: Create and maintain detailed documentation, including logic descriptions, control narratives, electrical schematics review, and operational manuals. Ensure all designs and implementations comply with safety standards and industry best practices. Required Qualifications and Skills Experience: 5+ years of hands-on, professional experience in PLC programming and industrial automation, preferably in a fast-paced manufacturing or system integration environment. Technical Expertise: Expert-level proficiency with at least one major PLC platform (e.g., Mitsubishi Gx works3 Gt designer 3, Siemens S7-300/400/1500 using TIA Portal). Demonstrable experience developing HMI/SCADA applications (e.g., FactoryTalk View, WinCC, Ignition). Strong knowledge of servo motion control and variable frequency drives (VFDs). Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams). Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field is strongly preferred. Relevant industry certifications and extensive experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Soft Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a systematic approach to troubleshooting. Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to interact effectively with clients, management, and technical staff. Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Bonus Qualifications (Preferred) Experience with functional safety PLC programming (e.g., Rockwell GuardLogix). Knowledge of higher-level programming languages (e.g., Python, C#) for data acquisition or interface development. Familiarity with database integration (SQL) and Industry 4.0/IoT concepts. Experience in a specific industry (e.g., Automotive, Food & Beverage, Pharma). Benefits and Compensation Competitive salary commensurate with experience. Paid time off and holidays. Opportunities for professional development and training.
