You will play a key role in the Buildings Services Team, taking responsibility for the team performance, technical excellence, and project delivery.

Role & Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Public Health & Fire Protection System Design:

    A highly skilled, hands-on Principal Public Health Engineer capable of designing public health and fire protection systems on high-end and/or complex buildings from concept stage through to IFC.
  • Design Coordination:

    Collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams to ensure the seamless integration of public health systems.
  • Quality Assurance:

    Review and verify public health design work completed both locally and remotely by Arups public health engineering teams to maintain high quality standards.
  • Collaboration:

    Work closely with Arup Group offices performing Public Health design for Middle East and India projects, ensuring compliance with local regulations. Assist and represent Arups services to the clients and stakeholders when required.
  • Design Development:

    Receive scope of works or design briefs from engineers and develop them into complete designs—including drawings, schematics, calculations, schedules and reports.
  • Team Contribution:

    Work as a member of the PHE team to support the delivery of high-quality public health designs.
  • Regulatory Compliance:

    Liaise with local authorities/AOR to secure project approvals and ensure adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:

    Provide technical support to facilitate local authority approvals on all projects, whether designed locally or remotely.
  • Health & Safety Compliance:

    Integrate health and safety principles into all work practices in line with Arup policies.
  • Technical Knowledge:

    A broad understanding of interdisciplinary coordination is desirable.

Requirements and skills

  • BEng/BSc (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent degree, with a minimum of 8 years of post-graduate experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working on projects in the Middle East, particularly in the UAE and KSA, either in-country or from a remote design office.
  • Passionate about implementing automation in design and delivery within a BIM environment.
  • Highly motivated and willing to tackle new challenges.
  • Experienced in hot/cold water, drainage, rainwater disposal, fire protection, gas system design to British/American and local codes/standards
  • Knowledge of British Standards, ASHRAE, UPC, CIBSE, NFPA, UAE & KSA codes and local regulations.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Good understanding of a broad range building design issues and systems.
  • Experience of working in Multi-D environment and with good interface skills.
  • Familiarity with LEED-certified projects.
  • Membership in a relevant professional body is required and chartered Engineer status is an advantage.
