Role Description
We are seeking an experienced
Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator
to manage, maintain, and optimize enterprise databases. The role involves installation, configuration, performance tuning, backup & recovery, and ensuring high availability of mission-critical systems.
Accountabilities & Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Database Administration
- Install, configure, and upgrade Oracle and MS SQL Server databases.
- Create and manage database instances, schemas, and security roles.
- Perform proactive monitoring, performance tuning, and optimization of database environments.
Backup & Recovery
- Implement and maintain backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies (e.g., RMAN, Always On, Log Shipping, or third-party tools).
- Regularly test recovery procedures to ensure business continuity.
Performance & Optimization
- Analyze execution plans, indexes, and queries to enhance performance.
- Optimize storage and memory usage for maximum efficiency.
High Availability & Replication
- Manage clustering, replication, and failover solutions (Oracle RAC, Data Guard, SQL Always On).
- Monitor uptime and ensure SLA compliance.
Security & Compliance
- Apply patches and security updates in line with IT and audit policies.
- Implement access controls, encryption, and auditing mechanisms.
Collaboration & Support
- Collaborate with development teams on database design, query optimization, and release management.
- Provide L2/L3 production support and troubleshooting for incidents.
Documentation & Automation
- Maintain accurate documentation for configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Automate repetitive DBA tasks using scripts or administrative tools.
Pre-requisites
Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum 8 years of experience as a DBA in Oracle and SQL Server environments.
- Proven experience managing database upgrades, migrations, and patching activities.
Technical / Professional Skills
- Oracle 12c/19c administration, Data Guard, RMAN, OEM, RAC.
- SQL Server 2016/2019 administration, Always On, SSIS/SSRS/SSAS.
- Strong SQL and PL/SQL or T-SQL scripting skills.
- Hands-on experience in performance tuning and query optimization.
- Working knowledge of Linux/Unix and Windows environments.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or OCI).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work in a 24x7 support environment and handle on-call duties effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate.
- Experience with database automation tools or integration with DevOps pipelines.
- Exposure to NoSQL or cloud-native databases.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Database uptime and SLA adherence.
- Backup success rate and recovery test outcomes.
- Number of performance issues resolved proactively.
- Timely completion of maintenance, patching, and upgrade activities.
