Job
Description
As a Lead Android Engineer at PhysicsWallah (PW), you will be a key player in the development of scalable and high-performance mobile apps that cater to millions of learners across India. Your role will involve architecting, building, and maintaining critical Android apps that facilitate live learning, assessments, content delivery, and commerce. You will be responsible for driving the technical roadmap for Android, focusing on quality, scalability, performance, and modularity. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product, design, QA, and backend, you will ensure the delivery of cohesive features and product experiences. Your primary responsibilities will include mentoring and guiding junior engineers in code quality, conducting architecture and design reviews, and promoting best practices. Additionally, you will lead the adoption of modern Android paradigms such as Jetpack Compose, Modularization, and Kotlin Multiplatform Mobile (KMM). Ensuring adherence to accessibility, analytics, offline support, and crash-free metrics is essential, along with owning and improving CI/CD, release processes, and observability for Android systems. To excel in this role, you should have at least 5 years of hands-on Android development experience, with a strong command of Kotlin, Android SDK, and Jetpack components like Compose, ViewModel, Room, and Navigation. Your expertise should extend to app lifecycle management, architecture patterns (MVVM, MVI, clean architecture), and modern Android development practices. As an engineering leader, you should demonstrate a track record of leading Android feature/module teams or projects, possess skills in modularization, scalable architecture, and code splitting, and exhibit proficiency in coroutines, Flows, background processing, and WorkManager. System thinking skills are crucial, including knowledge of app profiling, memory management, ANRs, and performance optimization, as well as experience with Firebase suite integration for crash reporting, analytics, and remote configuration. In addition to the must-have skills, having a working knowledge of KMM, cross-platform architecture patterns, feature flagging, A/B testing, or remote configuration would be beneficial. Experience in edtech, content delivery, or high-traffic apps, familiarity with CI/CD, Gradle performance tuning, and release automation are also advantageous. As a tech leader, mentor, and product-minded engineer, you will contribute to shaping scalable user experiences, elevating the team technically, and driving Android delivery end-to-end. You should be comfortable with ambiguity, quick iterations, and performance-sensitive decisions, thriving in a high-energy team culture and excited about making an impact at scale. Ideal candidates for this role should hold a B.Tech / B.E. in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent qualifications. Alternatively, demonstrable expertise through shipped apps, GitHub contributions, open-source projects, or community involvement will be considered. Joining PhysicsWallah offers the opportunity to work on a massive scale, impacting India's next 100 million learners. You will tackle real-world performance and UX challenges, experience accelerated growth in a flat engineering organization, collaborate with smart teammates and product thinkers, and be part of a mission-driven culture. Competitive compensation, flexible work arrangements, and the freedom to innovate and experiment further sweeten the deal.,
