Job Title: Senior Database Architect / PostgreSQL DBA Consultant Job Type: Part-time / Consulting (Flexible engagement model) Location: Remote (Preferred overlap with IST working hours) Duration: 3-6 months (extendable based on performance and scope) About the Role: The client is undergoing rapid growth and data scale-up and seeks an experienced Database Architect/DBA Consultant to help manage, optimize, and future-proof their high-volume data infrastructure. The role involves proactive database operations, schema evaluation, query optimization, and cost-efficiency planning in a PostgreSQL-heavy environment, with auxiliary tools like Redis, Snowflake, and object storage. Key Responsibilities: Assess and monitor the health of a large-scale PostgreSQL (Aurora RDS) database (>50 TB). Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, including I/O, memory, and CPU-related issues. Optimize long-running SQL queries, indexes, and schema design. Reinstate and tune auto-vacuum settings to improve DB hygiene. Implement guardrails for observability, monitoring, query control, and DB health. Design data retention and purging policies to reduce storage bloat. Consult with application teams on schema redesign and query optimization. Guide transition and offloading of analytical workloads to Snowflake. Recommend cost-effective strategies to reduce AWS resource consumption. Collaborate with business analysts and developers to align DB performance with app functionality. Required Skills: 12+ years of experience in PostgreSQL database administration and architecture. Hands-on experience with Amazon RDS (Aurora) and AWS cost/performance optimization. Expertise in query tuning, indexing strategies, and storage management. Strong understanding of geospatial queries, time-series data, and large-scale data processing. Familiarity with Redis, Snowflake, and object storage (e.g., S3). Experience managing data-intensive platforms with complex reporting and analytics needs. Knowledge of observability tools, query logging, and alerting systems. Nice to Have: Experience with Apache Iceberg, PostGIS, or other geospatial extensions. Prior involvement in application re-architecture or migration projects. Exposure to DevOps or cost modeling for cloud-based DB infrastructure. Comfort working with both platform-level data teams and application developers. Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Effective communicator and team collaborator. Ability to mentor teams on best practices.
