Job Purpose/ Summary NCR Atleos is seeking a MS SQL DBA with Azure SQL experience who will provide an expert level support for highly available SQL Server environments. The ideal candidate will be articulate and approachable and have practical/working knowledge of clustering, log shipping, mirroring, replication, and Always On availability groups as methods used to meet business needs. The ideal candidate must also be able to troubleshoot time sensitive production issues in a timely manner. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Experience working in large Azure environments, spanning multiple accounts/subscriptions, availability zones, and regions. Exposure to Azure IaaS & PaaS Services, experience in migration of workloads to cloud and understanding of Azure native services and disk pooling. Experience in managing SQL Server 2008, 2012, 2014 ,2016 and 2019 as well as sun setting older databases/versions. Experience to configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security. Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication mirroring and log shipping issues, connectivity issues etc. Experience in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using SQL Server monitoring utilities such as Spotlight (preferred), Redgate, IDERA or SolarWinds SentryOne. Ability to detect/ troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention. Good Experience in backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, DBCC commands. Experience with Always On design, Availability groups, replication, log shipping, mirroring and storage replication technologies Experience in indexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration, patching Knowledge of SQL Server tools (Profiler, DTA, SSMS, SAC, SSCM, PerfMon, DMVs, system procs) Solid acquaintance with windows server, security delegation, SPNs, storage components Independently analyse, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end. Experience with designing DR plans while satisfying SLA requirements and conducting Disaster recovery tests. Designing/Recommending database alerts for monitoring database availability and performance. Ability to work with internal and external auditors on PCI compliance audits. Ability to accurately monitor environments, resolve issues, and plan capacity improvements. Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes. Experience with Azure SQL in a multi-region configuration Expertise Microsoft SQL Server on VM, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL. Key Responsibilities: Analyze and optimize SQL queries, indexes, and schema designs to improve application performance. Work closely with developers to embed database best practices into the software development lifecycle. Conduct performance benchmarking and tuning on PostgreSQL (both self-hosted and on AWS RDS). Recommend and implement strategies for data partitioning, connection pooling, and caching. Help design and evolve data models for scalability, reliability, and maintainability. Collaborate with SREs/DevOps to optimize RDS configurations and automate maintenance activities. Participate in architectural reviews to ensure database-related concerns are addressed early. Monitor and profile query performance using PostgreSQL EXPLAIN plans, pg_stat_statements, CloudWatch, and other tools. Required Skills & Qualifications: 8 to 12 years of experience working with relational databases, with a strong focus on PostgreSQL. Deep knowledge of AWS RDS for PostgreSQL, including tuning parameters, failover, backups, and scaling. Strong understanding of database internals, indexing strategies, query optimization, and ACID principles. Hands-on experience in database performance tuning at the application level. Ability to analyze slow queries and provide actionable optimization strategies. Familiarity with tools like pgAdmin, pgbouncer, pg_stat_statements, AWS CloudWatch, etc. Solid understanding of data modeling and normalization principles. Comfortable working in Agile product development environments. Preferred Skills : Exposure to microservices architectures & and how data access patterns evolve in such setups. Experience working with ORMs (like SQLAlchemy, Hibernate, etc.) and mitigating performance issues stemming from them. Basic scripting skills (Python, Bash, etc.) for automation and tooling.
