Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Data Engineering Lead
, to drive the data infrastructure and engineering components of our global HR Transformation programme. This role will be instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and analytics solutions using AWS, Databricks, and Workato platforms. The successful candidate will architect robust data solutions that support our Workday implementation and broader HR technology ecosystem, ensuring seamless data flow, transformation, and accessibility across multiple countries and business units. Working closely with the Senior Data Lead and Solutions Lead, you will establish best practices for data engineering while building reusable components that enable Flutter to scale data operations efficiently. Ensure we have developed a deployment toolkit that allows us to deliver these deployments at pace without a partner being required.
Key Responsibilities
Data Architecture & Engineering Strategy:
- Design and implement scalable data architecture using AWS services (S3, Lambda, Glue, Redshift, etc.) to support the HR Transformation programme and ongoing BAU operations.
- Develop and maintain data pipelines using Databricks for complex data transformations, analytics, and machine learning workloads.
- Create robust, automated ETL/ELT pipelines that ensure reliable data extraction, transformation and leading using Workato to connect Workday for the data migration from legacy HR systems to Workday.
- Work closely with the Senior Data Lead, Integration Lead, and Workday Tech Lead to align data engineering solutions with functional requirements.
- Collaborate with the Security Lead to implement data governance, privacy, and compliance measures across all data engineering processes.
- Partner with the Test Lead to ensure comprehensive testing of data pipelines and validation of data integrity throughout the transformation process.
Toolkit Creation & Knowledge Transfer
- Develop reusable data engineering templates, frameworks, and accelerator tools that enable Flutter to deploy similar solutions rapidly without vendor dependency.
- Create comprehensive documentation and best practices guides for data engineering processes and platform usage.
- Mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams on data engineering best practices.
Monitoring & Incident Management
- Establish comprehensive monitoring and logging for all data engineering processes, ensuring proactive identification of issues.
- Lead incident response for data-related issues, coordinating with relevant stakeholders to minimize business impact.
TO EXCEL IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE
- A minimum of 6 years' experience in data engineering roles with at least 3 years working with AWS cloud services and modern data stack technologies.
- Extensive hands-on experience with AWS services including S3, Lambda, Glue, Redshift, EMR, and CloudFormation/Terraform for infrastructure as code.
- Proven expertise in Databricks platform including Delta Lake, Spark optimization, MLflow, and cluster management.
- Strong experience with Workato platform for building integrations, API management, and workflow automation.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Scala, or Java, with strong SQL skills for complex data transformations.
- Experience with HR systems (Workday preferred) and understanding of HR data models and business processes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to troubleshoot complex data pipeline issues and optimize performance.
- Strong communication skills with ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and document solutions clearly.
- Experience working in Agile/Waterfall project methodologies within large-scale transformation programmes.
