OLake is the fastest open-source engine for replicating PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MySQL, and more directly into Apache Iceberg, without the need for Kafka or Spark. With over 980 GitHub stars and an active roadmap, as well as a community of over 200 developers in our Slack community, OLake is setting new benchmarks in sync performance compared to leading ETL tools. Backed by US $1.3 M in funding, we are looking to expand our reach and impact further. We are seeking a hands-on Data Engineer (DevRel) to leverage our current traction and build a thriving developer ecosystem. The role involves owning technical content writing, including research, experimentation, detailed code walkthroughs, demos, benchmarks, and community engagement activities from end to end. **What you'll own (day-to-day)** **Area: Technical research & blogs** You will be responsible for creating detailed technical research blogs to engage the community and drive trials. **Area: Benchmarks** Publish reproducible benchmarks comparing OLake with other tools, with the aim of increasing blog post CTR and Hacker News up-votes. **Area: Feature & experimentation-based comparison** Try out various tools with different technologies and document your findings in blogs, aiming to keep docs bounce rate below 35%. **Area: Community Events** Host at least one online community meetup per month, including live demos and presentations to encourage engagement. Aim for a 50% attendee sign-up rate to join the Slack community. **Area: Slack tech Q & A** Engage in deep tech-related Q&A on Slack, escalating bugs as necessary. Achieve a 95% answer rate for tech-related queries. **Area: Product growth** Drive product growth based on customer feedback and discoveries. Attend 70-80% of customer live usage demos or discovery calls. **Must-have skill set** - Proficiency in Git workflow, including rebase-merge, semantic commits, and Markdown. - Prior experience in moderating Slack/Discord or guiding OSS contributors. - Ability to explain technical concepts, such as tcp_keepalive, in a GIF-friendly manner. - Medium level SQL query writing skills. - Work experience with at least 2 data engineering tools such as Spark, Glue, Presto, Trino, Databricks, Apache Iceberg, or Parquet formats. **Nice-to-haves** - Exposure to Airflow, dbt, and Kafka. - Familiarity with data ingestion processes. - Prior experience in speaking engagements like meetups, podcasts, or YouTube. - Contributions to data infrastructure projects, even small PRs. **Perks & culture** - Direct communication line to founders, where your feedback can shape the roadmap. - Budget allocation for hardware and tools needed for screencasts and demos. - Travel sponsorship for conferences where you represent OLake. - Daily lunch and snacks provided. - Monthly team outings, lunches, and parties. - Insurance coverage. **Experience**: 13 years (exceptional fresh graduates also welcome),
