Job Requirements
A Civil and Structural Design Engineer in the oil and gas industry is a highly specialized professional responsible for the end-to-end design, analysis, and integrity management of complex facilities. This role covers initial conceptual studies to detailed engineering, and ongoing operational support for both greenfield and brownfield projects.
The engineer ensures the safety, cost-effectiveness, and structural soundness of all civil and structural assets, whether on land or offshore. A deep understanding of industry-specific codes and standards is critical to ensure compliance and mitigate high-risk scenarios.
Key roles and responsibilities
Design and engineering
-
Perform advanced structural analysis and design for both reinforced concrete and steel structures, including pipe racks, platforms, foundations, and buildings.
-
Design specialized foundations, such as dynamic foundations for large rotating machinery, and pile foundations for complex structures.
-
Conduct comprehensive in-place, fatigue, seismic, and blast analysis for both onshore and offshore structures.
-
Develop detailed engineering deliverables, including technical specifications, calculation reports, and engineering drawings (GAs, details, layouts).
-
Utilize advanced engineering software (e. g. , STAAD. Pro, SACS, ABAQUS, Navisworks) for structural analysis, simulation, and 3D modeling.
Project management and coordination
- Lead the civil and structural aspects of projects from the conceptual (FEED) stage through detailed design and into execution.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (process, piping, mechanical, electrical) to ensure seamless integration of designs.
- Perform clash detection and resolution using 3D modeling tools to identify and mitigate conflicts with other disciplines.
- Provide technical support to the procurement process by reviewing vendor bids and material requisitions.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and change requests related to the civil/structural scope of work.
Integrity and maintenance
- Conduct structural integrity assessments of existing facilities, performing fitness-for-service evaluations.
- Develop and implement structural inspection and reliability programs to monitor the health of assets.
- Provide technical support and repair recommendations for in-service structures based on inspection reports and risk assessments.
- Support decommissioning projects by designing removal and demolition procedures.
Field and construction support
- Perform site visits and inspections to ensure construction activities comply with design specifications.
- Provide on-site technical guidance, address construction queries, and evaluate change orders.
- Develop installation aids and construction methodology, especially for offshore components.
- Support in Turnaround Engineering with Construction and Temporary support arrangements and necessary calculations in both Upstream and Refinery facilities
Documentation and quality assurance
- Ensure all designs and deliverables comply with strict international and industry-specific standards, such as API, AISC, Eurocodes, and relevant environmental regulations.
- Maintain accurate and organized project documentation, including design changes and revision controls.
Oversee quality control of contractor and vendor work throughout the project
