Job Description

AS/400 Programmer

Key Responsibilities:

Develop, test, and maintain applications on the
IBM AS/400
platform using
RPG
,
CL
, and other related languages.
Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications and programs.
Enhance existing applications and optimize code for performance improvements.
Debug and resolve issues reported in production and development environments.
Work with
DB2/400
database, write efficient SQL queries and manage data access.
Participate in system design, code reviews, and technical documentation preparation.
Support batch and online applications, ensuring timely processing and data integrity.
Collaborate with other developers, business analysts, and users to ensure seamless application functionality.
Assist in migration and modernization efforts of legacy systems, where applicable.
Provide production support and troubleshoot technical issues.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

4 to 5 years of experience programming on
IBM AS/400 (IBM i)
platform.
Strong expertise in
RPG (ILE RPG)
,
CL programming
, and
DDS
for screen and report design.
Good understanding of
DB2/400
database and proficiency in SQL.
Familiarity with batch processing, job scheduling, and spool file handling.
Experience with debugging and performance tuning of AS/400 applications.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and within a team.
Good communication skills to interact with technical teams and business users.

Preferred Skills (Good to Have):

Experience with
SQLRPGLE
and
ILE
programming concepts.
Knowledge of integrating AS/400 systems with modern technologies (APIs, web services).
Exposure to modernization tools or techniques (like Synon, Java integration).
Experience in Agile or Scrum methodologies.
