Application Modernization Engineer

As an Application Modernization Engineer at Google Cloud, you will have the opportunity to work with customers to assess existing enterprise applications in preparation for a cloud migration or modernization process. Your role will involve providing application design expertise, evaluating and categorizing applications and application platforms, and suggesting rewrite strategies to facilitate deployment to cloud-native products like Google Kubernetes Engine. Additionally, you will collaborate with customers on the redesign and implementation of legacy applications, focusing on aspects such as application scaling, reliability, and ongoing operations including monitoring, feature rollouts, and more. By closely collaborating with Product Management and Product Engineering teams, you will contribute to enhancing the quality and performance of Google Cloud products. The Google Cloud Consulting Professional Services team is dedicated to guiding customers through crucial stages of their cloud journey, enabling businesses to thrive by leveraging Google's global network, web-scale data centers, and robust software infrastructure. In this dynamic and rapidly expanding business environment, you will play a key role in shaping the future of businesses of all sizes, using technology to engage with customers, employees, and partners. Minimum qualifications for this role include a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience in software engineering. You should have at least 3 years of experience in application or solution architecture, along with 3 years of hands-on experience in developing applications using programming languages such as Java, Python, Go, or similar. Moreover, the ideal candidate should possess experience in managing internal or client-facing projects to completion, troubleshooting technical issues faced by clients, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and designing, developing, and maintaining internet-facing production-grade applications. Preferred qualifications for the Application Modernization Engineer position include expertise in designing cloud-native enterprise applications, familiarity with unit or automated testing tools like Junit, and knowledge of networking technologies (e.g., Load Balancers, Firewalls) and web standards such as REST APIs and web security mechanisms. Experience with DevOps practices, deployment and orchestration technologies like Puppet, Chef, Docker, Kubernetes, and understanding of open source server software (e.g., NGINX, RabbitMQ, Redis, Elasticsearch) are also highly valued. In this role, you will serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers, participating in designing and building applications, recommending approaches and effort estimates for application migration and modernization initiatives, and coaching a distributed team of engineers. You will be responsible for maintaining high development standards, managing project priorities and deadlines, working closely with customers on technical architectures and migration strategies, and offering best practice recommendations through tutorials, blog articles, sample code, and technical presentations tailored to various business and technical stakeholders" levels.,
